From a love of football, this space has gradually become a cultural exchange hub, connecting the community and spreading the image of a culturally rich Vietnam within a multicultural society.
At Second Cup Coffee, many Vietnamese gather to watch World Cup matches, converse in Vietnamese, and share their passion for football in an atmosphere reminiscent of home.
Do Thuy Nga, the shop owner, shared that the idea of organizing football viewing events stemmed from her love for the sport and her desire to create a meeting place for the Vietnamese community, especially as Canada co-hosts World Cup 2026.
According to Nga, watching football together, chatting, and cheering helps Vietnamese expatriates strengthen their bonds. Therefore, the shop is specially arranged for the community during major matches.
For many attendees, this is not just an opportunity to enjoy football but also a chance to rediscover a sense of belonging in a foreign land.
Luong Mai Anh, a Vietnamese living in Toronto, shared that being able to comment and cheer in Vietnamese with the community made her feel as if she were watching the matches back home.
Beyond being a World Cup gathering spot, Second Cup Coffee has also become a community space with various activities such as French clubs, Vietnamese tea introductions, cultural exchanges, and programs aimed at mental health.
Nga noted that as a well-known coffee brand in Canada, the shop attracts not only Vietnamese customers but also those from various communities. Through these exchange activities, many international friends have the opportunity to learn more about the Vietnamese language and culture.
Le Thi Hoang Yen, a Vietnamese in Toronto, believes that the World Cup taking place in North America is a special occasion for the Vietnamese community to meet, strengthen ties, and promote the spirit of unity and mutual support.
From thrilling matches to regular exchange activities, Second Cup Coffee is becoming a meaningful meeting place for Vietnamese in Canada.
Not only does it connect expatriates, but this model also contributes to promoting Vietnamese culture and affirming the positive presence of the Vietnamese community in Canada's multicultural life.
