On the afternoon of July 20, Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) officially launched the 21st Chuong Vang Vong Co competition - 2026. With the message “Preserving Tradition - Continuing the Future”, the competition not only aims to find outstanding voices but also continues to spread the love for cai luong to the public, especially the younger generation.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Ms. Diep Buu Chi, Deputy General Director of HTV, stated that after more than 20 years of organization, Chuong Vang Vong Co has transcended the framework of a singing competition to become a meaningful cultural activity in preserving and promoting cai luong art – a precious national heritage.

According to Ms. Diep Buu Chi, this year's season continues to inherit the values built over the years, while innovating the organization to bring cai luong closer to the public.

“The competition's goal is not only to discover promising voices but also to create an environment for contestants to hone their professional skills, performance abilities, community responsibility, and nurture a love for traditional art,” she said.

One of the notable new features of this season is the connection with the Bong Lua Vang competition. Accordingly, the top three contestants from Bong Lua Vang 2025 will be directly entered into the selection round of Chuong Vang Vong Co 2026, creating an additional gateway for young voices to enter the professional cai luong environment.

At the launch ceremony, the organizers introduced 32 contestants participating in the selection round. Each team, consisting of two contestants, will perform a cai luong excerpt suggested by the organizers, with a maximum duration of 12 minutes. The judges will provide feedback and score immediately after the performance.

After four selection nights, the competition will select 9 contestants to enter the finals, including 8 chosen by the judges and one selected by the audience from the "Breakthrough Contestants" list on the Chuong Vang Vong Co fan page.

From the finals, contestants will continue to compete over three nights to select three faces for the ranking finals, scheduled for September 27.

In the decisive night, each contestant will undergo two parts: performing a classical cai luong excerpt staged with the support of professional artists and presenting a new vong co song.

The final results will be calculated using a formula that multiplies the score of the excerpt performance by two, adds the score of the new vong co performance, and divides by three to determine the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Bell titles.

In addition to the professional rounds, the program "Contestant's Growth Diary" continues to be organized with experiential journeys at six locations, including Saigonbank, Doan Gia Dinh School, People's Police University, meetings with veteran artists associated with the competition, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School, and Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater.

According to the organizers, this series of activities aims to help contestants accumulate real-world experience, hone professional skills, build community responsibility, and nurture a love for cai luong art.

To promote the new season, the Gala Chuong Vang Vong Co 2026 is scheduled for August 30.

Turning 21, Chuong Vang Vong Co is expected to continue serving as a bridge between tradition and the younger generation of artists, contributing to bringing cai luong closer to contemporary life while creating a successor workforce for the Vietnamese cai luong stage.
