MOFA updates on the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Israel and Iran: Spokesperson

Responding to a reporter's question requesting an update on the number of Vietnamese citizens currently in Israel and Iran, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that, regarding the tense fighting situation in the Middle East, on June 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a recommendation to Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in Israel and Iran to comply with regulations and instructions on security and safety measures of the local authorities; keep in touch and closely monitor warning information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative missions in Israel and Iran; and prepare plans to safely evacuate people and property to a third country or to Vietnam.
According to information from the Vietnamese Embassies in Israel and Iran, there are currently more than 700 Vietnamese citizens in Israel and 37 Vietnamese nationals and 4 people of Vietnamese origin in Iran. So far, no casualties have been reported among the Vietnamese community in these two locations.
In recent days, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministries have discussed and carefully studied the options and directed the Vietnamese representative missions in Israel and Iran as well as the Vietnamese representative missions in neighbouring countries to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure maximum safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in dangerous areas.
At the same time, the units of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese representative missions in the areas, in the Middle East and neighbouring regions, have closely coordinated with domestic authorities, diplomatic missions of other countries and partners in Hanoi and local authorities and diplomatic missions to develop a protection plan, ensure the safety of citizens, ensure the safety of representative mission headquarters and develop a plan to evacuate Vietnamese citizens in hot spots to a third country.
As of June 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran has coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, as well as relevant countries, to carry out citizen protection work to bring 18 Vietnamese citizens in Iran to a third country and return home, continue to closely monitor and prepare citizen protection measures for the remaining citizens in Iran.
"I have just received information that the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran has an Ambassador and 4 officers who are still in contact with the remaining citizens in Iran to ensure the most effective citizen protection work. According to the information we have, the Vietnamese citizens are currently safe and mentally stable and are regularly in close contact with the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran.
The Embassy regularly advises people to be vigilant, avoid gathering in crowded places, strictly comply with regulations and instructions to ensure security and safety of local authorities, as well as closely monitor warning information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran. Since the conflict broke out in this area, we have continuously issued warning bulletins and citizen protection bulletins," Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang informed.
According to the Spokesperson, in Israel, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel is also coordinating with Vietnamese representative missions in neighbouring countries to deploy an emergency response plan and will evacuate citizens living and working in Israel to a third country.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has opened an online registration portal for Vietnamese citizens wishing to leave Israel to return home or to a third country to compile a list and summarize the needs and coordinate with relevant agencies to develop appropriate support plans.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel also recommends that Vietnamese citizens should remain calm, proactive and, if possible, find a way to leave Israel via land border crossings when security and safety conditions allow, and closely monitor information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel as well as update warnings from local authorities.
