Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung receives Acting Secretary-General of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party Hagiuda Koichi

WVR - On July 21, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung met with Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Acting Secretary-General, along with a high-level delegation from Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) who are visiting Vietnam from July 20-23.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their delight at the positive and substantial development of relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, as well as the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated Japan and the LDP on their significant achievements in recent times. The Minister affirmed that following the successful visit of Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to Vietnam last May, this visit by the high-level delegation of the LDP holds significant importance, contributing positively to the development of relations between the two ruling parties and the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the future.

Sharing information about the 14th National Party Congress, foreign policy, and Vietnam's growth model in the coming period, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized that in the context of complex global and regional developments, Vietnam continues to regard Japan as an important partner and wishes to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

Acting Secretary-General Hagiuda Koichi congratulated the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and highly appreciated the determination of Vietnam's new leadership in promoting administrative reform, local mergers, and setting the goal for Vietnam to become a high-income developed country by 2045. He expressed his pleasure to revisit Vietnam after three years since his 2023 visit (marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations) as the LDP's Policy Chief and was impressed with Vietnam's socio-economic achievements. He emphasized the importance of the effective implementation of the cooperation memorandum signed in 2015 between the two parties.

Recognizing that there is still much potential for Vietnam-Japan relations to develop further, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung suggested that both sides continue to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen political trust through high-level visits and contacts. He urged the promotion of cooperation between the parties' committees and the implementation of commitments and agreements between the two countries' senior leaders, especially agreements in economic, science and technology, and education and training fields during Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's visit to Vietnam last May. He also called for continued coordination, sharing of positions, cooperation, and mutual support on regional and international issues.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that Japan send Government representatives and local leaders to participate in the second Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation Forum in Hue City in early September 2026. He also asked that the LDP continue to pay attention and implement policies to ensure a fair and favourable living and working environment for the 700,000 Vietnamese community in Japan.

Sharing Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung’s views, Acting Secretary-General Hagiuda affirmed that efforts would continue to encourage the LDP and the Japanese Government to effectively implement important cooperation agreements between the LDP and the Communist Party of Vietnam.He also emphasised deepening the relations between the two countries in the future, particularly in digital transformation, green transition, and energy security based on the effective implementation of Japan's initiatives such as the "Asia Zero Emission Community" (AZEC) and the "Partnership for Energy and Resource Resilience in Asia" (POWERR Asia).
