Vietnamese in Australia support flood victims with 1.25 billion VND

WVR - The fundraising campaign “Double the Love 2025” organized by the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Australia (VASEA) in collaboration with the Australia Social Impact Foundation (ASIF Foundation) concluded with a total of 74,065.68 AUD (equivalent to 1.25 billion VND) to support flood-affected regions in Vietnam.

The campaign was launched after Vietnam was hit by two consecutive super typhoons, Bualoi (Typhoon No. 10) and Matmo (Typhoon No. 11), at the end of September, causing heavy rain, floods, severe landslides, and extensive damage in many northern and central provinces.

With the coordination of VASEA, ASIF, and support from the Vietnamese Embassy and Consulate General in Sydney, the campaign received enthusiastic support from the Vietnamese community, associations, businesses, and international friends.

Inspired by love for their homeland, VASEA and ASIF adopted the image “From Heart to Heart” as the campaign's symbol.

For every 1 AUD donated by the community, the ASIF Foundation matched it 1-1, embodying the spirit of “double the love” to spread the power of kindness within the Vietnamese community in Australia and international friends.

All contributions over 2 AUD were recognized by the Australian tax office and were eligible for personal income tax deductions as per local regulations.

On November 11, under the witness of Vietnamese Consul General in Sydney Nguyen Thanh Tung, Professor Nghiem Duc Long, President of VASEA, symbolically handed over the funds to those in Vietnam working to overcome the aftermath of the 2025 typhoons.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam (2022-2024), senior advisor to VASEA; Ms. Nguyen Nhue Ha, representative of the ASIF Foundation's Executive Board; representatives from participating associations, the Vietnamese Student Association in New South Wales, and a large number of Vietnamese community members in Sydney.

The entire amount raised was transferred by ASIF and VASEA to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front through the Vietnamese Consulate General in Australia and was publicly reported to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

At the symbolic handover ceremony, Consul General Nguyen Thanh Tung emphasized that the campaign spread the spirit of compassion and social responsibility among intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs, and prominent representatives of the Vietnamese community in Australia.

According to Consul General Nguyen Thanh Tung, in difficult times, the spirit of “the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves” and “love others as you love yourself” among Vietnamese people is rekindled and shines brightly, becoming a unifying force and a source of national pride.

Ms. Nguyen Nhue Ha stated that during the most challenging times, the ASIF Foundation clearly felt the power of love from the Vietnamese community in Australia and international friends.

She affirmed that the campaign's success demonstrated the boundless compassion that transcends borders, helping compatriots quickly stabilize their lives.

On behalf of VASEA, Professor Nghiem Duc Long expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Vietnamese community in Australia and thanked the Australian Government, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and Australian diplomatic missions in Vietnam, particularly former Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski, for their continued support of VASEA since its establishment in August 2023.

He affirmed VASEA's commitment to advancing community projects like the VietNEST initiative and developing new initiatives, particularly activities promoting scientific and technological cooperation, emission reduction, and climate resilience between Australia and Vietnam.
