The program aims to share difficulties, help compatriots quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters, stabilize their lives, and express the deep affection of the overseas Vietnamese community for their homeland.
Spreading the spirit of “The good leaves protect the worn-out leaves”
From October 5, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, in coordination with the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Germany, officially launched a campaign to mobilize donations for flood-affected compatriots.
The campaign was widely launched across states and cities with large Vietnamese populations such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, München, Leipzig, Dresden, Magdeburg, Zwickau, Erfurt, Cottbus, Augsburg, Potsdam… and quickly received strong support from the overseas Vietnamese community.
With the spirit of “the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves, love others as you love yourself”, Vietnamese people in Germany have shown deep solidarity and attachment. Beyond mere calls, various organizations, clubs, local Vietnamese Associations in Germany, individuals, philanthropists, and Vietnamese businesses have proactively organized diverse forms of mobilization: from direct fundraising at the Dong Xuan Trade Center in Berlin, at community events, calls via social media, to collecting donations on-site.
Notably, the initiative of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Germany was recognized as a highlight of this campaign. Representatives of the association did not hesitate to spend time and effort visiting each store, restaurant, nail salon, and Vietnamese company at the Dong Xuan Trade Center in Berlin and the capital area to directly mobilize and receive contributions.
This practical and close action has significantly spread the spirit of mutual support within the community, awakening a sense of responsibility towards the homeland in every expatriate.
A symbol of Overseas Vietnamese compassion
Many exemplary figures were recognized during the campaign. Notably, the Buddhists of Pho Da Temple in Berlin actively participated, contributing over 5,000 Euros, demonstrating compassion, charity, and community responsibility.
Additionally, many businesses, stores, and Vietnamese individuals across Germany also proactively contributed, whether large or small, with sincere hearts towards compatriots severely affected by natural disasters. Examples include: Sen Vang Charity Association, Berlin Brandenburg Veterans Association, Hanoi Association, Hai Phong Association, Elderly Association, Thang Long Group, Club of Interpreters, Dong Xuan Restaurant, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien – General Director of Dong Xuan Trade Center, Mr. Nguyen Van Hinh – General Director of Le Hop Company, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh of Viet Pho Restaurant, Chau A 24, Chay Long Company, Familie Berlin Association, Hung Phat Company, Nghe An Homeland Association, and many other organizations...
These simple actions, from the savings of workers to the support of successful businesses, have created a great source of solidarity – affirming that even while living abroad, the Vietnamese community remains closely connected to their homeland.
As of October 24, the fundraising campaign has received enthusiastic participation and support from a large number of Vietnamese people, associations, philanthropists, businesses, and German friends. The total amount raised is 120,637 Euros, equivalent to 3,757,176,000 Vietnamese Dong (Three billion seven hundred fifty-seven million one hundred seventy-six thousand Dong).
At a solemn donation ceremony at the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Honorary Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Germany, represented the Vietnamese community in Germany to hand over the entire donation to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
This support will be directly transferred to the flood-affected compatriots as soon as possible to help them overcome the consequences, rebuild homes, schools, and stabilize their lives.
Turning towards the Homeland with all our hearts
The fundraising campaign is not only an action of material value but also a symbol of Vietnamese love and compassion. It is a clear testament to the tradition of “drinking water, remember the source, love others as you love yourself”, a spirit that overseas Vietnamese generations have always preserved and promoted.
In a speech at the campaign's closing ceremony, a representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany affirmed: “The joint efforts of the Vietnamese community in Germany have shown a heart towards the homeland, while also strengthening the strong bond between expatriates and the homeland. This is a precious spiritual value that needs to be continuously spread in all community activities in the future.”
Looking back at the campaign, success is not only in the impressive amount raised but also in the unity, sharing, and sense of responsibility of the Vietnamese community in Germany. From ordinary workers, students, entrepreneurs to monks and Buddhists – all share a common heart “turning towards the homeland, towards those affected by storms and floods”.
The Vietnamese community in Germany has long been known for its solidarity, diligence, and always caring for social and homeland activities. Over the years, many similar programs have been organized to support compatriots affected by natural disasters, epidemics, or economic difficulties – and the 2025 campaign continues to add a beautiful chapter to that humanitarian story.
This fundraising effort by the Embassy and the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Germany, the Vietnamese community in Germany, is a vivid testament to the power of compassion and national spirit. Thousands of kilometers away from the homeland, Vietnamese expatriates still share a heartbeat with the homeland – together turning towards Vietnam with all their hearts.
