The championship saw the participation of over 200 athletes of various ages from across Belarus, aiming to select the best athletes to compete in the European Vovinam Championship in November 2026 in Belgium and subsequently the World Vovinam Championship, expected to be held in Algeria in 2027.
In his opening remarks, martial arts master Sergey Alekxeevich Sarendo, President of the Viet Vo Dao Federation of Belarus, stated that the Viet Vo Dao movement in Belarus has made remarkable progress in recent years, attracting more and more athletes, especially among teenagers and school students.
Viet Vo Dao Belarus has participated in and won numerous titles in European and world tournaments, providing significant motivation for the Federation in Belarus to promote and train in Vietnamese martial arts, helping Belarusian youth develop willpower, physical fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.
The Federation also expressed gratitude for the support from the Viet Vo Dao Federation of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in Belarus for accompanying and supporting the Viet Vo Dao movement in Belarus.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belarus, Ambassador Nguyen Van Trung, an honorary guest of the Belarus National Championship 2026, highlighted that Vovinam - Viet Vo Dao is not only a traditional martial art of Vietnam but also a symbol of the martial spirit, confidence, loyalty, and bravery of the Vietnamese people, closely resonating with the resilient and indomitable spirit of the Belarusian people as demonstrated in the Great Patriotic War.
The Ambassador highly appreciated the efforts and diverse activities of the Viet Vo Dao Federation of Belarus in developing the movement and promoting Vietnamese traditional martial arts to the many Belarusian friends who love Vietnamese culture and martial arts.
The Ambassador expressed his hope that the National Olympic Committee of Belarus will soon recognize the development of the Viet Vo Dao Federation of Belarus and include Vietnamese martial arts in the official competition list at national Olympic sports events. The Ambassador awarded several prizes and recognitions to athletes and coaches who have significantly contributed to the Viet Vo Dao movement in Belarus.
Viet Vo Dao was introduced to Belarus in 1987 by martial arts master Alexander Vikentievich Drobish, initially as a school for training in traditional Vietnamese wrestling.
Since 1998, the Viet Vo Dao Federation of Belarus has been officially established and has contributed to the formation of the European Viet Vo Dao Federation (EVVF) since 2010, with martial arts master Sergey Alekxeevich Sarendo elected as Vice President of the EVVF.
In 2023, at the World Viet Vo Dao Championship, Sergey Alekxeevich Sarendo was officially recognized as a senior martial arts master, officially leading and guiding the Viet Vo Dao movement in Belarus.
