Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan promotes translation and publication of President Ho Chi Minh's Poetry Collection 'Prison Diary' into Urdu

WVR - On July 24, Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Pham Anh Tuan met and worked with Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif, President of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).

During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan and Ms. Najeeba highly appreciated the progress made in completing the Urdu translation of 74 poems from President Ho Chi Minh's poetry collection Prison Diary, which is set to be published in English by The Gioi Publishers in 2024.

Both parties exchanged views, reviewed, and basically agreed on the final contents to proceed with the layout and printing of the Poetry Collection. This translation project is part of the Cultural Diplomacy activities, the Project to Honor President Ho Chi Minh, and based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Vietnam Writers' Association and PAL.

Based on the bilateral MOU, the two organizations have closely coordinated to implement the translation and publication project of the Poetry Collection. Additionally, they committed to promoting literary exchanges, including the Vietnam Writers' Association's project to translate famous Pakistani literary works into Vietnamese, bringing the valuable literary heritage of Vietnam and Pakistan closer to readers in both countries, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and deepening the friendship between the peoples of the two nations.

Recently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan (also covering Afghanistan) has had the honor of accompanying, coordinating, and supporting PAL in completing the translation of President Ho Chi Minh's Prison Diary.

Throughout this process, the Embassy has received attention, assistance, and support from domestic organizations such as the Vietnam Writers' Association, The Gioi Publishers, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cultural Diplomacy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and the National Political Publishing House Truth, helping provide copyrights for translations, materials, book cover designs, portraits of President Ho Chi Minh, enabling PAL to complete the translation content both in terms of content and form.

Additionally, the Embassy highly appreciates and sincerely thanks Mr. Salahuddin Choudhry, former Head of the Pakistani Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam, who has a deep affection for Vietnam and initiated this meaningful initiative.

It is expected that in mid-August 2026, PAL, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan, will organize a Book Launch Ceremony for the Pakistani readers, marking a memorable event in cultural and literary exchange and connection between the two countries.
