Warm gratitude to families of martyrs in Germany
WVR - On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026), on July 21, the Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin-Brandenburg, in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany, organized a delegation to visit and present gifts to express gratitude to the families and relatives of martyrs residing in the capital, Berlin.

The delegation, led by Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin-Brandenburg, along with representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, visited three families of martyrs' relatives. They kindly inquired about their health and lives, and listened to stories of the sacrifices and contributions of the martyrs, as well as the families' efforts in preserving revolutionary traditions and building their lives in Germany.
At the home of Mrs. Dinh Thi Ngoc Thanh, daughter of Martyr Dinh Van Lac – a military doctor who sacrificed his life in 1967, the delegation was moved by her story of how her father used all his medicine to treat wounded soldiers before succumbing to malignant malaria.
Meanwhile, the families of Mrs. Tran Thi Yen, daughter of Martyr Tran Quang Tien, and Mrs. Luc Thi Ha, daughter of Martyr Luc Van Thung, are still hoping to find the remains of their loved ones more than half a century after the martyrs fell on the southern battlefield.
The delegation presented flowers and gifts to express deep gratitude for the sacrifices and losses of the heroic martyrs for the nation's independence and freedom.
The families expressed their emotions over the attention from the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin-Brandenburg, stating that the community's encouragement is a significant source of motivation, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and “Gratitude for those who have contributed”.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin-Brandenburg Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that expressing gratitude to the families of war invalids and martyrs is an annual activity of the association. It aims to show appreciation to those who sacrificed for the Fatherland and to educate the younger generation in the Vietnamese community in Germany about patriotism.
A representative from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany also affirmed that, despite living far from their homeland, the Vietnamese community in Germany always preserves and promotes the beautiful tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source”, contributing to strengthening national unity.
