Ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army in South Sudan

WVR - On December 20, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7 solemnly celebrated the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2025).

The ceremony was attended by over 100 delegates, including leaders and commanders of the Unity Sector, commanders of various units, and United Nations peacekeeping officers and staff stationed in the area.

In a solemn and friendly atmosphere, delegates and staff of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7 (BVDC2.7) enjoyed traditional Vietnamese cuisine rich in hometown flavours and engaged in cultural exchanges and performances by both Vietnamese and international guests.

In his welcoming speech, Major, Dr. Tran Duc Tai - Director of BVDC2.7, emphasized that during their mission in South Sudan, the hospital's staff highly value the opportunity to work alongside experts, officers, and peacekeeping personnel from various countries and organizations.

With the mission of providing medical care, serving patients, and alleviating difficulties and tensions in the mission environment, BVDC2.7 consistently strives to make tangible contributions to peace and stability in the region.

The Director of BVDC2.7 affirmed that Vietnam always values international cooperation and multilateral efforts for peace; serving together under the United Nations flag is not just a duty but an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding, support each other, and build strong relationships.

On this occasion, BVDC2.7 leadership expressed deep gratitude to international partners and colleagues who have consistently supported and cooperated with the unit throughout its mission.

Speaking at the ceremony, Brigadier General Zewdu Endris Yimer, Commander of the Unity Sector (Bentiu), expressed his honor to attend the 81st anniversary celebration of the Vietnam People's Army at Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7, under the South Sudanese sun.

He noted that this special context vividly illustrates the strong development journey of the Vietnam People's Army, from a force with a glorious history in national defense to an increasingly important role in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Unity Sector Commander emphasized that the spirit of "Uncle Hồ's Soldiers" – a symbol of resilience, sacrifice, and duty – is clearly reflected in each staff member of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7.

He affirmed: "The staff of BVDC2.7 do not bring conflict, but healing; not confrontation, but service to the most vulnerable communities in South Sudan".

Recognizing the crucial role of BVDC2.7, currently on its seventh rotation, the Unity Sector Commander considers it a vital pillar in the sector's medical support system and an exemplary model within the entire Mission.

He acknowledged the professionalism, responsibility, and compassion of the hospital's staff, emphasizing that every life saved, every patient cared for, and every local medical staff trained contributes significantly to building sustainable peace.

Beyond their professional duties, BVDC2.7's civil-military activities, local community engagement, and effective coordination with UN units demonstrate a comprehensive approach to peacekeeping missions, thereby strengthening community trust in the United Nations and spreading a message of hope and international solidarity.

Alongside the anniversary celebration, BVDC2.7 organized various activities in honour of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, such as health screenings for staff at the Sector; and sports competitions featuring diverse events like football, badminton, table tennis, billiards, and chess.

These activities contribute to enhancing spiritual life, strengthening internal unity, and fostering international friendship, while also igniting the sense of responsibility and enthusiasm of staff towards the traditional day of our Army.
