Vietnamese Engineering Unit leaves dual mark after over a month on international mission in the Abyei region

WVR - On November 13, Mr. Kon Maneit Matiok, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Services, representing the local government of the Abyei region, visited the camp of Vietnam's Engineering Unit No. 4, expressing appreciation for contributions that are touching the hearts of the community.

The visit took place after more than a month since the Vietnamese blue-helmet officers and soldiers began their peacekeeping mission at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

Welcoming the delegation, on behalf of Engineering Unit No. 4 were Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong, Unit Commander; Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cong, Political Commissar, along with other officers in the Unit Command.

In a region fraught with potential conflict, where the demand for essential infrastructure is a critical "bottleneck", Engineering Unit No. 4 has demonstrated its prowess not only through superior experience but also through the resilient spirit and determination of the Vietnamese blue-helmet soldiers.

This strong motivation has enabled them to quickly assert themselves, overcoming all challenges to create essential infrastructure.

During the working session, the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Services not only expressed warm congratulations but also emphasized: “In just over a month, Engineering Unit No. 4 has not only repaired roads serving the base but also directly addressed the 'urgent bottlenecks' for the people.

Your repair and upgrade of the vital Banton bridge – a critical transportation route impacting security, economy, and civilian life – is not just technical work, it is creating life.”

Mr. Kon Maneit Matiok emphasized that the difference felt by the people is not only in the smooth roads but in the dedicated spirit of the Vietnamese blue-helmet soldiers.

The local government highly appreciates that Engineering Unit No. 4 has not only excellently fulfilled its professional duties according to United Nations standards but has also become "ambassadors of humanity" in the heart of Abyei through practical actions.

They have brought not only technical skills but also clean water – a survival necessity; essential food supplies; and books and school supplies for underprivileged children. This closeness has created a beautiful image of the "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" – those who sow seeds of trust.

Mr. Matiok affirmed: “Every drop of clean water, every small gift that the Vietnamese soldiers give has gradually built solid trust. Your contributions are not just technical, but heartfelt sharing with the people of Abyei.”

During the visit and working session, representatives of the local government listened to the commanders of Vietnam's Engineering Unit No. 4 discuss the initial advantages and challenges faced during their mission.

Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Văn Cuong, Commander of Engineering Unit No. 4, shared: “Our motto is 'work with heart, build with mind'. Every technical project we undertake aims to best serve the mission of peace and the local people. This is not just a mission but a humanitarian tradition of the Vietnam People's Army.”

These actions clearly demonstrate Vietnam's commitment not only to peacekeeping but also to rebuilding and revitalizing life in post-conflict areas.

The visit and recognition from the Abyei local government are not only a great encouragement but also a clear testament to the positive and profound impact of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force. It continues to affirm Vietnam's position as an active and responsible member of the international community, contributing to building a more peaceful and developed Abyei.
