Canada highly values Vietnam's role in Southeast Asia: Ambassador

During the meeting, Canadian Ambassador Jean-François Tremblay praised Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, considering Vietnam as one of the most dynamic economies in the region. He also acknowledged Vietnam's increasing role, position, and reputation in ASEAN and on the international stage.
The Canadian Ambassador particularly appreciated Vietnam's active and substantive participation within the SEARP framework, especially during Vietnam's tenure as Co-Chair of the Program for the 2022-2025 period.
As the current Co-Chair of SEARP alongside the Philippines, Canada expressed its desire for Vietnam to continue sharing coordination experiences, priorities, and cooperation directions in the coming time to enhance the Program's effectiveness, ensuring alignment with the priorities and interests of countries in the region.
For his part, Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai appreciated Canada's active coordination role in SEARP, affirming that Vietnam considers the OECD an important partner in the process of institutional reform, governance capacity enhancement, and international integration.
The Ambassador shared Vietnam's priorities and interests in promoting cooperation on ensuring economic security, enhancing supply chain resilience, energy security, digital trade, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and mobilizing green finance for energy transition.

Both sides affirmed that Vietnam and Canada share many common interests, concerns, and visions in promoting multilateralism, sustainable development, respecting international law, and enhancing coordination to address global challenges.
Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai affirmed that Vietnam will continue to actively coordinate with Canada, the Philippines, and other member countries and partners of SEARP to promote the SEARP Program to become more substantive and effective, better addressing emerging challenges in the Southeast Asian region, thereby strengthening the connection and cooperation between ASEAN and the OECD.
