On February 22, responding to a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the European Union (EU) adding Vietnam to the list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions on February 17, based on the peer review results of the OECD on tax information exchange for the 2021-2023 period, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized:
Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community, always valuing cooperation and exchange with the OECD, especially in ensuring the transparency and efficiency of the tax system. This creates a stable, transparent, and favourable investment and business environment for the business community, including foreign enterprises and investors.
During the OECD's peer review process on tax information exchange, Vietnam seriously considered the recommendations, made amendments, and recently supplemented several legal documents in the fields of taxation, finance, and corporate governance, such as the Tax Administration Law, the Enterprise Law, and Decree No. 168/2025/ND-CP on corporate management. These adjustments contribute to enhancing compliance with international standards on transparency and tax information exchange.
Currently, the Vietnamese Government is developing and implementing a national action plan to execute the recommendations of the OECD's Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, while also strengthening international cooperation in the tax sector with partners, including the European Union.
In the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the European Union, Vietnam is ready to exchange, share, and cooperate closely and responsibly with the European Council and EU member states on the achievements in perfecting the legal system, mechanisms, and policies towards uniformity, transparency, fairness, and alignment with international standards and practices. This contributes to ensuring an objective and comprehensive assessment, as well as promoting cooperative relations between Vietnam and European partners for the goal of common development and prosperity.
