Phu Quy island in Lam Dong ranked among top destinations in Southeast Asia: Thailand's Khaosod

In early January, Thailand's Khaosod announced a list of 10 "tranquil" and pristine destinations that are difficult to access but rich in Southeast Asian identity and atmosphere, including Phu Quy island (Lam Dong).

Through surveys, Khaosod highlighted Phu Quy island (Lam Dong) as a place that is "untouched, windy, and cinematic".

"While everyone is flocking to Phu Quoc, those truly seeking something different take a boat from Phan Thiet to Phu Quy. It is a volcanic island in the middle of the sea with emerald green waters, still untouched by mass tourism," the publication described.

According to Khaosod, Phu Quy evokes memories of Vietnamese beaches from 30 years ago.

Phu Quy, also known as Thu island or Khoai Xu island, is a small island located about 120km Southeast of Phan Thiet.

Although Phu Quy island spans just over 18 square kilometers, it offers a diverse range of beautiful landscapes and experiences for visitors to explore. Besides the main island, there are also Hon Da Cao, Hon Do, Hon Tranh, and Hon Hai surrounding Phu Quy.

The ideal time to explore Phu Quy island is from December to June, when the sea is calm and the winds are gentle. The island is at its most beautiful from March to May, attracting numerous visitors for sightseeing and photo opportunities.

On the island, tourists can rent motorbikes to explore on their own, easily observing and admiring the natural scenery along the way, or stopping to take photos wherever they wish.

Must-visit spots on Phu Quy include Trieu Duong Bay; Bai Nho – a crescent-shaped beach nestled against the mountainside with turquoise waters; Ganh Hang – where cliffs rise steeply beside the sea, with water flowing in to create the unique "Khe Sung Suong" and "infinity pool"; Cao Cat peak; Lang Duong fish pond... Visitors should also experience taking a canoe to Hon Tranh and Hon Den for snorkeling and fishing.

The island's two famous specialties are Huynh De crab and moon crab.

This island is also a popular destination for domestic tourists during the Lunar New Year.

In addition to Phu Quy, Khaosod also introduced nine other lesser-known destinations in Southeast Asia, such as: Ulu Temburong (Brunei) – dubbed the "green gem of Brunei"; Nong Khiaw (Laos) nestled among limestone mountains, serving as a starting point for many trekking routes along the Nam Ou river; Doi Mae Salong village, known for its lush tea hills and cool climate in Thailand...
