Exploring Tan Canh Duong beach: Pristine beauty attracts tourists

During a self-planned 5-day trip from Hanoi to Hue in the summer, Nguyen Ngoc Thang (43 years old, Dai Thanh commune, Hanoi) did not expect that the destination that left the deepest impression on his family would be a pristine, secluded beach.
Thang and his wife have three daughters. For many years, they have taken advantage of holidays to travel on tours or by plane and train. This year, he boldly planned a self-driving trip from Hanoi to Hue, almost without booking hotels in advance or following a fixed itinerary.
He wanted to explore the natural landscapes and learn about local culture in the most rustic and intimate way with his wife and children. In Hue, besides exploring the Hue Imperial City, enjoying local cuisine, and experiencing Tam Giang Lagoon, the family also explored the beach.
Initially, they planned to visit Lang Co Beach, where Thang had visited several times. However, before the trip, he read some articles about Tan Canh Duong Beach. The images of the clear blue waters and long stretches of white sand captivated the Hanoi family.
Located about 60km south of Hue city center, Tan Canh Duong Beach belongs to Chan May - Lang Co commune. According to information from the VisitHue page of the Hue City Department of Tourism, the beach is approximately 8km long, situated between Chan May Tay and Chan May Dong capes, and is distinguished by its fine white sand, relatively wind-sheltered sea, and clear blue water.

Upon arriving at the beach, Thang's entire family was surprised. “This place still retains its very pristine beauty. The green trees lining the beach provide natural shade, and the atmosphere is tranquil, not noisy like many famous beaches we have visited. The sea water is crystal clear, and the sand is gentle and smooth,” Thang said.
Thang noted that the sand here is very wide and gentle, with calm waves, allowing the children to play, collect shells, and build sandcastles while the parents can easily supervise them. There are several huts on the beach facing the sea for visitors to relax and avoid the sun.
“We played for the entire afternoon, nearly 5 hours, and still didn’t feel bored. It’s rare to find a beach that offers such a peaceful and pleasant feeling as this one,” Thang recounted.
His family also rented a boat to visit a small sandbank, separated from Tan Canh Duong Beach by a narrow waterway. They felt like they were “setting foot on a deserted island” due to the private and sparsely populated space.
“If you know how to swim, you can rent a life jacket or kayak to get there. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful,” he shared.
The travel time from Hue city center to the beach is about an hour. The road is beautiful and convenient. Unlike many famous beaches heavily invested in services, Tan Canh Duong currently lacks many restaurants or accommodations. However, according to Thang, this is what makes it appealing.
“For someone who loves exploration like me, the pristine nature is the most valuable thing. There aren’t too many services, but in return, there’s a peaceful, clean beach environment close to nature. This destination makes my family want to return soon,” he said.
Summer is the best time to visit Tan Canh Duong, with clear water and calm waves, suitable for swimming, camping, and organizing outdoor activities. In the evening, many groups of tourists choose to have campfires, grill seafood, and stay overnight in tents or huts by the beach to enjoy the rare tranquility.
For families who love nature and prefer destinations that aren’t too crowded, Tan Canh Duong is gradually becoming a name passed around in travel groups.
Near this beach area, visitors can also explore Lap An Lagoon, a large brackish water lagoon in Hue. Lap An Lagoon is surrounded by the majestic Bach Ma Mountains, the clear Lang Co Bay, and a small winding road along the mountain foot, resembling a soft, shimmering silk ribbon.
