Ms. Nguyen Viet Trieu, President of the Union of Vietnamese Women’s Associations in Europe, said that 2025 marks 80 years of Vietnam’s Independence Day – a sacred milestone in the nation’s history.
To honor the ancestors who built and defended the country, while also igniting national pride among overseas Vietnamese, the Union has initiated, launched, and sponsored a special community cultural program called “Viet Phuc Walking Journey Across Europe”.
As a pioneering organization, the Union of Vietnamese Women’s Associations in Europe not only organizes events but also connects dozens of associations, businesses, and Vietnamese communities across many countries, turning “Viet Phuc Walking Journey” into a shared path for the diaspora across Europe.
The event will simultaneously take place in several major European cities, gathering thousands of Vietnamese in the ao dai and traditional costumes of the three regions.
Key activities include: an ao dai and ethnic costume parade, folk art performances, cultural exchanges with international friends, and bridging generations of overseas Vietnamese.
The program begins with the “Vietnam Map Formation” event on August 19 in Warsaw (Poland), celebrating the anniversary of the August Revolution.
The sight of the brilliant red flag with a golden star and the outline of the country appearing in the square recreates the heroic spirit of that historic autumn, recalling the moment when the Vietnamese people seized power and ushered in an era of independence and freedom.
The program continues in Bratislava (Slovakia) on August 24 with lion dances and a traditional costume parade. Then, on August 29, parades will take place in Liberec (Czech Republic) and Kosice (Slovakia) through European landmarks rich in historical value.

Finally, on August 31, Utrecht (Netherlands), Vienna (Austria), and Brno (Czech Republic) will all showcase Vietnamese identity in the heart of Europe, while in London (UK) a flower-laying ceremony will be held at the site where President Ho Chi Minh once worked in 1913.
The program is accompanied by Vietnamese associations, women’s groups, business councils, and student associations across countries, joining hands to spread the message: “Viet Phuc Radiant – Vietnamese Spirit Reaching Far”.
This message affirms that no matter where they are in the world, love for the homeland and the Vietnamese identity are always preserved and shine brightly.
Commemorating the 80th Independence Day is not only an occasion to honor and take pride in the nation’s glorious history, but also a reminder that every Vietnamese, whether at home or abroad, carries within their heart pride, resilience and eternal love for the Fatherland.
With its leadership role, the Union of Vietnamese Women’s Associations in Europe continues to affirm the strength of community connection, serving as a solid bridge between the homeland and the diaspora, contributing to elevating the image of Vietnam on the international stage.
