Hanoi sees surge in tourist arrivals ahead of 80th National Day Celebration

On 26 August, the Hanoi Department of Tourism reported that in August alone, the capital welcomed 500,000 international visitors staying overnight. Domestic tourist arrivals were estimated at 2.47 million, an increase of 23.8 per cent compared with the same period in 2024. Total tourism revenue was estimated at VND 12.54 trillion, up 31.5 per cent year-on-year.
For the first eight months of 2025, Hanoi is projected to have received 21.58 million visitors, a 13.9 per cent rise compared with the same period last year. This included 4.96 million international visitors, up 25.8 per cent (with 3.49 million staying overnight), and 16.62 million domestic travellers, up 10.7 per cent. Total tourism revenue reached an estimated VND 85.835 trillion, a year-on-year growth of 17.1 per cent. In August 2025, the average occupancy rate of hotels was around 59 per cent.
According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in September the department will complete a project to renew the management model, conservation, and promotion of the national special historical and scenic relic complex of Huong Son (Perfume Pagoda). It will also develop and launch new tourism products under the theme “Hanoi Tourism - Convergence of Quintessence 2025”.
Key highlights in September include the Hanoi Beverage Festival 2025; participation in the International Travel Expo (ITE) in Ho Chi Minh City; a delegation attending ITB India and promoting Vietnamese tourism in India; as well as Hanoi’s presence at IFTM Top Resa and tourism cooperation activities in France.
Additionally, the department will join the Four Directions Culinary Festival in Hue, the Thanh Tuyen Festival in Tuyen Quang, and host the Hanoi Autumn Festival 2025 along with the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival 2025. It will also organise training conferences and familiarisation trips to connect local wards and communes with travel agencies across the city.
The department will work with local authorities and stakeholders to develop new tourism products such as agricultural and rural tourism, night-time tourism, and community-based experiences highlighting the cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups, alongside promoting unique destinations such as the Hanoi Beer Museum.
