Despite losing points after the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team maintained their position among the top 100 teams globally and ranked second in Southeast Asia.

During the September 2026 FIFA Days international matches, the Vietnam national team participated in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, securing two victories and suffering two defeats. This result led to a deduction of 6.33 points compared to the previous ranking, leaving them with 1,231.29 points.

However, with the point gap still maintained over the teams ranked below, the Vietnam national team preserved their 99th position globally.

In the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, Vietnam defeated the Philippines 1-0, lost to Thailand 0-2, and won against Pakistan 4-2 in the group stage.

This outcome allowed coach Kim Sang Sik and his team to qualify for the third-place playoff, where they lost to Malaysia 0-1, finishing the tournament in fourth place.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand remains the highest-ranked team, moving up one spot to 93rd globally with 1,251.42 points.

Despite losing 0.85 points after the matches at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, the Thailand national team maintained their leading position in the region, ranking six places above Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Indonesia improved their ranking after winning the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The island nation gained 3.35 points, climbing two spots to 116th globally with 1,166.50 points.

Thus, the Vietnam national team continues to hold the second position in Southeast Asia, behind Thailand and ahead of Indonesia.

In the subsequent positions, Malaysia ranks 133rd globally with 1,102.09 points, the Philippines stands at 136th, and Singapore is at 149th. Following them are Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor-Leste.

At the top of the FIFA rankings, Spain continues to hold the number one position globally. Argentina and France are ranked second and third, respectively.

Notably, Portugal has risen to fifth place, ranking above Brazil and Morocco.

According to FIFA, since the World Cup 2026, a total of 338 international matches have taken place. The results of these matches continue to influence the points and rankings of many teams.

For the Vietnam national team, maintaining a position in the top 100 globally is a foundation to aim for future objectives.

According to the plan, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will regroup during the November FIFA Days to participate in an international tournament organized by the Vietnam Football Federation, thereby continuing to assess their squad and prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup Finals.

The next FIFA rankings are expected to be announced on November 18.
