The event was attended by City leaders, representatives from various departments, 40 prominent overseas Vietnamese delegates, researchers, historical speakers, and media representatives. It served as an opportunity to enhance patriotism, national pride, and strengthen the trust of overseas Vietnamese in the mission of building and defending the homeland. This aims to further harness the power of national unity in the process of renewal and international integration under the Party's leadership.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Deputy Chief of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Office, recalled that throughout the nation's history, President Ho Chi Minh always remembered the overseas Vietnamese, who remained loyal to the homeland.
Accordingly, the Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community. The resources of overseas Vietnamese have been and are being strongly promoted, especially in the mission of building and protecting the homeland's maritime sovereignty.

Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai emphasized that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a mega-urban area, an economic – industrial – logistics hub in Southeast Asia.
Alongside, the City will invest heavily in healthcare, education, community health care, and the physical and intellectual development of the younger generation. To achieve these goals, Ho Chi Minh City needs to mobilise all resources, including knowledge, finance, and the spirit of solidarity from the overseas Vietnamese community.
The Deputy Chief added that remittances to the City annually account for 40 – 53% of the country's total remittances. In 2024, this figure reached 10.3 billion USD. In the second quarter of 2025, remittances reached 2.82 billion USD, up 17% from the previous quarter. This is not only a valuable financial resource but also a clear testament to the trust and attachment of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland.
In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to refine policies to create the most favourable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to contribute to key economic and social programs.
During the gathering, the overseas delegation visited and was introduced to the national achievements exhibition, the "80 Years of Vietnamese Diplomacy: Honour and Pride" exhibition, and the photo and cultural art exhibition by overseas Vietnamese titled "Vietnam in the Eyes of Overseas Vietnamese".
