Vietnamese traditional martial arts present at tournament in Algeria

WVR - From October 30 to November 1, students of Vietnamese traditional martial arts in Algeria participated in a tournament held in Boumerdès province, aiming to select outstanding athletes for the national team.

More than just a sporting event, the occasion highlights the vitality and spread of Vietnamese culture in a country thousands of kilometers away, where the Vietnamese community is small, yet the cultural values of Vietnam are embraced and preserved by many local residents.

Traditional martial arts are becoming a connecting thread between the peoples of the two countries.

For Algerian martial arts students, Vietnamese traditional martial arts are not merely a sport for physical training and self-defense skills. Through each form, technique, and training process, students have the opportunity to engage with the unique aspects of Vietnamese culture, philosophy of life, and martial spirit. Discipline, perseverance, respect, and martial ethics are values conveyed alongside martial arts techniques.

Notably, the love for Vietnamese traditional martial arts has extended beyond clubs and training halls. Many Algerian students express a desire to visit Vietnam to directly explore the country, people, and homeland of the martial art they pursue. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to visit Vietnam, the image of the country and its culture is known through books, the Internet, and stories from coaches and martial arts masters.

In the context of a limited number of Vietnamese living in Algeria, the presence and development of Vietnamese traditional martial arts serve as a particularly meaningful cultural exchange channel.

Through teaching, training, and competition activities, Vietnamese cultural values continue to be introduced, received, and spread within the local community, independent of a large Vietnamese presence.

Traditional martial arts are becoming a connecting thread between the peoples of the two countries, complementing the foundation of friendship built from shared historical struggles for independence.

Encounters on the training floor, the bond between teachers and students, and the desire of Algerian martial arts students to explore Vietnam demonstrate that cultural exchange can begin with simple yet impactful activities.

The tournament in Boumerdès not only provides an opportunity for students to showcase their skills, compete, and aim for the national team but also contributes to maintaining and developing a sustainable cultural bridge between Vietnam and Algeria.
