Speaking at the press conference, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi shared insights into various aspects of Vietnam under the leadership of the Party following Ho Chi Minh's ideology. With a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, Vietnam has pursued multilateralization and diversification of international relations, proactively and actively integrating into the global community.

Since President Ho Chi Minh declared independence, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - the country has overcome numerous historical challenges, from fighting colonial and imperial forces to achieving complete national reunification, building and defending the nation, and pursuing the current path of Renovation and international integration.

In terms of foreign relations and international cooperation, Vietnam has strengthened bilateral diplomacy and multilateral cooperation. To date, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with nearly 200 countries, comprehensive partnerships, strategic partnerships, or comprehensive strategic partnerships with 38 countries, and is an active member of over 70 international and regional organizations. Vietnam has also signed 17 free trade agreements (FTAs), including many new-generation FTAs with over 60 countries and territories. The expanded visa exemption policy for 24 countries from August 15 also aims to promote international cooperation and integration, tourism development, and people-to-people exchanges.

In defense, Vietnam has built a regular, elite, and gradually modernized people's armed forces, maintaining a "four no's" policy (no military alliances, no foreign bases, no aligning with one country against another, no use or threat of force) and defense cooperation with 60 countries, including many major powers. Vietnam has established defense attaché offices in 35 countries, modernized its armed forces, and promoted cooperation in training and technology transfer.

Vietnam's economy has made significant strides, transforming from a war-torn, impoverished nation to the world's 32nd largest economy and 25th in terms of purchasing power parity. GDP is projected to reach $490 billion by 2025, with an average growth rate of 6-7% per year.

In the first seven months of 2025, import-export turnover reached $514.7 billion, with a trade surplus of $10.18 billion. Vietnam attracted $24.09 billion in FDI, focusing on high-tech and renewable energy. The multidimensional poverty rate dropped to 4.06%. In social sectors, Vietnam achieved a primary school enrollment rate of 99%, lower secondary school enrollment of 95%, an average life expectancy of 75 years, and welcomed 17.5 million international tourists in 2024, a significant increase from the previous year.

The largest administrative reform in Vietnam's modern history since July 1 streamlined the state apparatus, reducing the number of provincial and city-level administrative units from 63 to 34, transitioning to a two-tier local government model (province - commune), enhancing state management efficiency, bringing the government closer to the people, serving citizens and businesses, and creating a favorable environment for sustainable economic growth. The GDP growth target for 2025 is set at 8% or higher, aiming for double-digit growth in the 2026–2030 period.

The Ambassador highlighted 80 years of Vietnam's diplomacy alongside American nations in the development journey of the Vietnamese nation. Vietnam-Brazil relations have thrived in the past three years, with the relationship upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024 and Vietnam becoming a BRICS partner in June 2025.

Bilateral trade reached $7.98 billion in 2024, with Vietnam exporting footwear, textiles, electronics, and coffee, while importing agricultural materials, beef, cotton, and cereals from Brazil. Official and state visits between the two countries have strengthened relations and implemented numerous cooperation projects, including the announcement of the first shipments of pangasius, tilapia, and beef between the two nations.

Beyond economics and diplomacy, cultural and sports cooperation has also been vigorously promoted. The Vietnam Embassy organized numerous events to promote culture, arts, and cuisine, celebrating significant milestones such as the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 17th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership; the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and national reunification; the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh; Vietnam Day in Brazil (11/2024); and the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Commemorative Plaque in Rio de Janeiro during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the G20 Summit (11/2024).

Sports cooperation, particularly in football, has also seen significant progress, with agreements between the Vietnam Football Federation and the Brazilian Football Confederation, and between Ho Chi Minh City Football Club and Grêmio Football Club, Rio Grande do Sul.

The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnam's 80 years of independence achievements result from internal efforts and international cooperation, including with Brazil. The Vietnam-Brazil Strategic Partnership opens opportunities for sustainable development in economics, trade, services, culture, sports, tourism, diplomacy, science and technology, innovation, agriculture, and contributes to building a peaceful and prosperous world.
