Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu meets with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam
WVR/VNA - On the afternoon of August 25, within the framework of an official visit to Singapore and co-chairing the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue, Politburo Member and Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee's Secretariat Tran Cam Tu met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam warmly welcomed Politburo member Tran Cam Tu and the high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam on their official visit to Singapore. He highly appreciated the significance of the visit as the relations between the two countries are thriving after being elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The President expressed confidence that the visit, along with the success of the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue, will further strengthen political trust, enhance understanding between the leaders of the two countries, and create additional momentum for the Singapore-Vietnam relationship to develop in a profound, substantive, and effective manner in the new phase.
Politburo member Tran Cam Tu expressed his delight at visiting Singapore for the first time in his capacity as Standing Member of the CPV Central Committee's Secretariat. He conveyed the best regards and wishes from General Secretary, President To Lam, and senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
The Standing Member of the Secretariat congratulated Singapore on its significant achievements in nation-building and development, maintaining high competitiveness, and building a modern, dynamic economy with strong resilience and adaptability. He appreciated Singapore's role and positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region, as well as the process of building the ASEAN Community.
He shared information about Vietnam's strategic policies in the new development era, particularly the restructuring of the administrative apparatus. He affirmed that Vietnam consistently values its relationship with Singapore, one of Vietnam's top important partners in the region.
Over half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, the relationship between the two countries has been continuously strengthened and expanded based on increasing political trust, interconnected interests, and mutual economic support. The establishment of a Strategic Partnership in 2013 and its elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025 are significant milestones, reflecting the maturity of bilateral relations and the shared vision of the two countries' leaders for long-term cooperation.
Both sides were pleased to note that economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to be a prominent highlight and one of the solid pillars of the Vietnam-Singapore relationship. Investment cooperation focuses on many important sectors such as processing, manufacturing, logistics, finance, and high technology. Both sides agreed on the need to continue promoting and upgrading effective cooperation models to meet the demands of green, smart, and sustainable development in the new phase.
Politburo' member Tran Cam Tu emphasised the important task of deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, transforming the high level of political trust and agreements between the two countries' leaders into specific cooperation programs, projects, and outcomes. Both sides need to maintain regular exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts, strengthen connections between ministries, sectors, localities, and business communities, and better exploit the complementarities between the two economies to enhance the quality and sustainability of economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
In the context where both Vietnam and Singapore prioritize science-technology, innovation, and human resource development in their development strategies, Comrade Tran Cam Tu proposed that the two countries make breakthroughs in new fields such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digital economy, semiconductor technology, data centers, green economy, clean energy, green finance, and high-quality human resource training. He emphasized that cooperation in the new phase should gradually shift to areas with higher technology, knowledge, and added value, not only leveraging existing advantages but also creating new growth drivers, thereby contributing practically to the rapid and sustainable development goals of each country.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and its increasingly high international standing. He shared a special impression of the talented and ambitious young generation of Vietnam, affirming that Singapore values its relationship with Vietnam and wishes to effectively exploit the opportunities brought by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
The President agreed that the two countries have many favorable conditions to leverage each other's strengths, especially in new economic fields, technology, innovation, and human resource development. Both sides need to enhance scientific and technological connectivity, promote the new cooperation model of “Three Houses of Two Countries,” and jointly engage in co-research, co-development, and co-production, while attracting new-generation industrial and high-tech investments.
Both sides also discussed the rapidly changing and complex regional and global situation. They agreed that in the context of an unpredictable international environment, Vietnam and Singapore need to enhance exchanges and coordination to contribute to maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and favorable environment for development.
Both sides affirmed their continued close coordination within ASEAN and at multilateral forums. Together with other member countries, they aim to strengthen solidarity, unity, enhance ASEAN's resilience and central role, promote multilateralism, regional cooperation, and integration, contributing to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous ASEAN.
Politburo member Tran Cam Tu expressed confidence that with the solid foundation of relations nurtured for over half a century, high political trust, increasingly tight-knit interests, and the determination of the two countries' leaders, the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop strongly, substantively, and sustainably, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries and positively contributing to peace, stability, and development in ASEAN and the region.
