In the spirit of Vietnam's nationwide celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep shared insights on Vietnam's development journey and the prospects of Vietnam-Qatar relations.
The Ambassador emphasised that after 80 years of nation-building and defence, Vietnam has achieved significant milestones: a GDP of $476 billion in 2024, ranking 32nd globally; being among the top 20 economies in trade and FDI attraction; and reducing the poverty rate to below 2%. In foreign relations, Vietnam currently has diplomatic ties with 194 countries and plays an active role in numerous international forums.
Discussing development directions, the Ambassador affirmed Vietnam's goal to become a modern industrialised nation with high middle-income status by 2030 and a developed, high-income country by 2045. The upcoming development strategy is closely linked with digital transformation, green growth, circular economy, and a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Ambassador noted that the two-way trade turnover in 2024 reached over $860 million, an increase of $100 million compared to 2023. There has been a vibrant exchange of delegations, notably the official visit to Qatar by the Vietnamese Prime Minister in October 2024 and Qatari delegations attending the P4G event and the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security in Vietnam.
The embassy is working closely with Qatari ministries, sectors, and businesses to resolve obstacles, expand markets for goods and services, and promote cooperation in logistics, skilled labour, tourism, and two-way investment.
In the realm of people-to-people exchanges, culture, education, and sports have seen significant progress. Qatar has granted Arabic language scholarships to Vietnamese students and signed cooperation memorandums in sports and academic diplomacy. In the coming time, the embassy will organise the "Soul of Vietnam" painting exhibition at the Katara Cultural Village in September 2025 and Vietnamese film screenings in 2026.
Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed his hope that Qatari media outlets will continue to accompany in conveying information about Vietnam and its people, thereby contributing to strengthening understanding, trust, and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.

The attending journalists expressed their admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times, especially in trade, poverty reduction, and international integration; acknowledging the prospects for Vietnam-Qatar cooperation in emerging fields such as renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, and cultural exchange.
Many journalists appreciated the embassy's proactive provision of data and specific examples, which facilitated their reporting. Some reporters suggested a desire for regular updates on embassy activities and bilateral relations to enhance coverage in local media.
Overall, the meeting was deemed successful, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam and its people, affirming its stance and development path, while encouraging Qatari media to engage with the embassy's foreign activities in the future.
