Politburo Member, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung holds talks with Chilean counterpart Francisco Pérez Mackenna

Welcoming Foreign Minister Mackenna to Vietnam, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung highly appreciated his official visit, which demonstrates the Chilean Government's commitment to advancing the Vietnam-Chile Comprehensive Partnership, especially as the two nations celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations (March 25, 1971 - March 25, 2026).
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always values strengthening ties with Chile, the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (March 25, 1971), and a key partner for Vietnam in the Latin American region.
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung noted the positive development of the Vietnam-Chile Comprehensive Partnership, particularly in economic and trade sectors. Chile is Vietnam's third-largest export market in Latin America, while Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner in ASEAN. The Minister expressed a hope for both sides to further deepen political relations, enhance trust, and expand practical cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, supporting each other in the new context.

In this spirit, Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two Foreign Ministries continue to play a coordinating role in bilateral relations on key issues such as increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level visits; strengthening ties between the two Parliaments, political parties, and socio-political organizations, viewing these as a solid foundation for consolidating and developing bilateral relations; and coordinating to soon organize the 8th Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries and the 6th Meeting of the Free Trade Council.
The two sides also agreed to promote business connectivity, expand cooperation and investment in areas with significant potential such as mining, green transition, digital economy, finance-banking, culture-education, science-technology, and security-defense; and to push for new cooperation agreements to create a legal framework for strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries.
For his part, Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Mackenna expressed admiration for Vietnam's achievements in national construction and development. Minister Mackenna affirmed that the Chilean Government always values and seeks to enhance relations with Vietnam within its overall policy towards the Asia-Pacific region, especially given that Vietnam and Chile have signed a bilateral free trade agreement and are both members of APEC and the CPTPP, sharing many similarities in various fields.

Minister Mackenna agreed with the proposals from the Vietnamese side; affirming that the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contribute to making the Vietnam-Chile relationship more substantive and effective in the coming time. The Chilean Foreign Minister expressed a desire for both sides to enhance economic-trade-investment relations, especially amid the current volatile situation; to open markets for each other's agricultural products; and to expand cooperation in technology, renewable energy, and essential strategic minerals.
Discussing international and regional issues of mutual concern, the two Ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation at international organizations and multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations.
On this occasion, Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco Pérez Mackenna extended a formal invitation to Minister Le Hoai Trung to visit Chile in the near future. Minister Le Hoai Trung gladly accepted the invitation and suggested that both sides continue to discuss and agree on the timing of the visit through diplomatic channels.
* During the visit, Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna will meet with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and hold working sessions with several Vietnamese enterprises.
