During the meeting with Slovenia's Minister of Environment, Climate, and Energy Bojan Kumer and the General Director of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant Gorazd Pfeifer, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang stated that nuclear energy and energy infrastructure are top priorities in infrastructure development — one of the three strategic breakthroughs for Vietnam's green and sustainable development as per the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress.
By the end of 2024, Vietnam has agreed to restart the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project (now in Khanh Hoa province) with a total expected capacity of over 4,000 MW. The government has established a Steering Committee for the construction of nuclear power plants and assigned 11 domestic training institutions to train 4,000 personnel for two nuclear power plants.

Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang requested Slovenia to share its experience in effective operation, management, safety assurance, and environmental protection at the Krško Nuclear Power Plant — one of Europe's safest and most efficient plants since its operation began in 1983. He also expressed a desire to promote cooperation in human resource training and expert exchange between the two countries in this field.
Minister Bojan Kumer expressed his admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and its breakthrough goals in the upcoming era. He committed to cooperating and sharing experiences in clean energy, renewable energy, nuclear power development, green economy, and circular economy, aiming for the common goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The Minister suggested that relevant agencies from both countries promptly connect, exchange, and sign cooperation agreements in this priority field.

On this occasion, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang visited the Krško Nuclear Power Plant to learn in detail about its management model, operation, safety assurance system, waste treatment, maintenance, equipment upgrades, infrastructure, and human resource training. The Krško Nuclear Power Plant is a joint venture between Slovenia and Croatia, utilizing Westinghouse's two-loop pressurized water reactor technology with a capacity of 737 MW. It contributes 35% of Slovenia's electricity output, employs nearly 700 personnel, and has been extended to operate until 2043.
The Slovenian government has also approved plans to build a second nuclear power plant with an expected capacity of up to 2,400 MW.
