Flower-laying ceremony marks Pushkin's birth anniversary in Hanoi

WVR - On June 5, in honour of the birth anniversary of the great Russian poet Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin (June 6, 1799), the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi solemnly organized a commemoration and flower offering at the Pushkin Monument in Peace Park, Hanoi.

Attending the event were Mr. Vladimir Murashkin, Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi; representatives from the Russian Embassy in Vietnam; Chargé d'affaires of the Belarus Embassy Oleg Stanishlavovich Shloma; Russian Trade Representative Vyacheslav Kharinov; Deputy Director in charge of the A.X. Pushkin Russian Language Center Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, the Russian community, representatives from Vietnam-Russia friendship organizations, the Bach Duong Ensemble, teachers, and students specializing in Russian from high schools in Hanoi, along with enthusiasts of Russian literature and culture.

Every year on June 6, Russia commemorates Pushkin Day, a day dedicated to remembering the poet, his works, and his role in Russian and world cultural history. According to a United Nations resolution, June 6 is also declared as International Russian Language Day.

In Moscow, there is a special tradition where, on the poet's birth anniversary, people visit the Pushkin Monument, bring flowers, and recite his poetry. This tradition is a part of Russian culture, showcasing the nation's love for one of its greatest poets. Gradually, this tradition has been embraced by other cities in Russia and abroad. Now, in Hanoi, there is a Pushkin Monument where admirers of the great poet gather in Vietnam.

​In his opening remarks, Mr. Vladimir Murashkin, Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, emphasised that more than two centuries after the birth of the great poet Aleksandr Pushkin, his works continue to be translated, studied, and appreciated in many countries around the world. According to him, this enduring vitality demonstrates that the value of genuine literature always transcends barriers of time, space, and historical context.

227 years after the birth of the great poet Pushkin, his verses and the humanistic values he left behind continue to transcend the boundaries of space and time, becoming a cultural bridge that fosters friendship between the people of Vietnam and the Russian Federation. Vietnamese poetry and literature enthusiasts have become acquainted with Pushkin's works through translations by many renowned Vietnamese translators, as well as personal, heartfelt translations by many who love the Russian language and Russian literature.

The commemoration featured various meaningful artistic performances and exchanges. Many of Pushkin's poems have been infused into music, becoming famous love songs. Students specializing in Russian from Nguyen Hue High School performed poetry recitations, and members of the Bach Duong Ensemble sang love song adapted from Pushkin's poetry.

Familiar verses and melodies, including the poem I Love You, were performed in both Russian and Vietnamese, with the poetry, songs, and music helping to recreate the Russian cultural space and receiving enthusiastic applause from the attendees.

Concluding the program, delegates, guests, and those who cherish Russian culture offered flowers at the monument of the great poet Aleksandr Pushkin in Peace Park.

This ritual not only expresses gratitude to a literary monument of the world but also serves as an occasion for those connected to Russia to meet and express their love for the Russian language and culture.
