The lyrics of the song Bai ca Ho Chi Minh, composed by a female Greek communist, were mentioned during the program commemorating the 136th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece on May 19 in Athens.
Attending the program were Mr. Seretakis Nikos, Head of the External Relations Department of the Communist Party of Greece, Mr. Aramis Fuente Hernandez, Cuban Ambassador to Greece, along with about 50 delegates, including Greek friends, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Greece, and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece.
The program included meaningful activities such as offering incense in memory of Uncle Ho, screening documentaries, and discussions about President Ho Chi Minh's career.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh was a genius leader of the Party and the Vietnamese people, a great teacher of the Vietnamese revolution, a national liberation hero, and a world cultural figure.
President Ho Chi Minh is a noble symbol of genuine patriotism, seamlessly combined with proletarian internationalism. His heart always reached out to oppressed peoples, tirelessly fighting for peace, independence, freedom, and happiness, making outstanding contributions both in theory and practice to the communist and national liberation movements worldwide.
The legacy he left is not only national independence but also a treasure trove of thought, ethics, culture, and noble style, symbolizing the spirit of self-reliance.

During the discussion, Mr. Seretakis Nikos, Head of the External Relations Department of the Communist Party of Greece, delivered a comprehensive and profound speech, expressing respect and high regard for President Ho Chi Minh's role in finding the path to national salvation, leading the Vietnamese people to victory in the struggle against invaders and defending the homeland.
In the hearts of international friends, President Ho Chi Minh is also a proletarian internationalist and a brilliant diplomat who valued relations with communist parties of other countries and the development of proletarian internationalism.
He was also an outstanding cultural figure, with poetic works created under harsh imprisonment conditions, such as the poetry collection Nhat ky trong tu. Some poems from this collection were set to music by renowned German composer Hans Werner Henze and performed in several European countries and Greece.
Uncle Ho is an inspiration for Greek communists, and the song Bai ca Ho Chi Minh was composed and circulated in Greece, a testament to the affection of the Greek people for President Ho Chi Minh.
Speaking at the discussion, the Cuban Ambassador to Greece emphasized the great stature of President Ho Chi Minh, not only in Vietnam but also internationally, associated with the liberation of oppressed peoples worldwide. The Ambassador mentioned the good relationship between President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro, as well as the close ties between Vietnam and Cuba.
Many Greek friends expressed admiration and high regard for President Ho Chi Minh's life and career, while also congratulating Vietnam on its socio-economic and diplomatic achievements in recent times.
On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Greece, Mrs. Sarantidou Foteiini Nguyen Thi Tuyet expressed pride and deep affection for President Ho Chi Minh.
In recent years, the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece has coordinated with local authorities to organize activities honoring President Ho Chi Minh, helping Greek and international friends understand the great stature of his thoughts and contributions to the national liberation cause.

In 2025, as part of the Vietnam Film Week in Greece, the Embassy coordinated with New Star Cinema to organize a film day about President Ho Chi Minh and launched a book translated into Greek about his biography; a second book about him is being translated.
The Embassy is continuing to work with the city of Edessa on placing a statue honoring him at the city library. Coming up in June 2026, an exhibition about President Ho Chi Minh will be held in Athens, organized by the Ho Chi Minh Museum in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece and Greek partners.
