The Ho Chi Minh Monument in Zalaegerszeg, inaugurated on April 30, 1976, is the only full-body outdoor statue of him in Central and Eastern Europe. The monument not only marks a special historical period when the Hungarian people strongly supported Vietnam in its struggle for independence and national unity but also serves as a vivid testament to international solidarity – a core value in Ho Chi Minh's ideology.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Zoltán Balaicz affirmed that the Ho Chi Minh Monument has become an inseparable part of the city's cultural life.
He emphasized that erecting the statue in 1976 was not only a decision with political-historical significance but also a moral choice of the community, reflecting the deep empathy and strong support of the Hungarian people for the just struggle of the Vietnamese people. The Zalaegerszeg city government will continue to preserve and promote the value of the monument as a symbol of friendship between the two nations.

As part of the commemorative activities, the seminar on "President Ho Chi Minh's Ideals on International Solidarity" attracted many profound speeches from Hungarian delegates.
The discussions affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh's ideals of international solidarity are deeply humane and have sustainable practical value. Accordingly, international solidarity in his ideology is not a formal alliance but a bond based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. It is the solidarity between oppressed nations in their struggle for independence, as well as cooperation between countries for the common goal of peace and development. He always emphasized that nations can only achieve victory by relying on each other, supporting each other, and acting together for the common good of humanity.
Hungarian delegates particularly emphasized that during the historical period of the 1950s-1970s, the spirit of international solidarity was vividly demonstrated through the strong support of the Hungarian people for Vietnam, from fundraising movements and material support to deep empathy for the losses and sacrifices of the Vietnamese people, with many marches supporting Vietnam with the slogan "Vietnam - we stand by you". This spirit contributed to creating a solid foundation for the friendly relations between the two countries today.
