Development of renewable energy sources and supporting infrastructure
With a priority on developing renewable energy sources as per the adjusted Power Plan VIII, numerous solar and wind power projects by EVN have been timely connected to the national grid. EVN supports private investors in producing clean electricity through a direct electricity purchase mechanism. The proportion of renewable energy in the national power structure has significantly increased.
Simultaneously, EVN has also accelerated the rooftop solar program nationwide. Thousands of residential and office rooftop systems have been successfully connected to the grid.
The corporation is implementing energy storage solutions to stabilize fluctuating renewable sources. The modernization of the smart grid is being comprehensively executed by EVN. The SCADA system and AI platforms help forecast and regulate load more effectively.
EVN is enhancing international cooperation to access green technology and finance. Numerous financial agreements with partners such as AFD, KfW, and EIB have been signed. These collaborations bring smart energy management solutions.
Additionally, the development of solar and wind power continues to be prioritized by EVN. Many large projects have been put into operation. To support private investors in renewable electricity production, the direct electricity purchase mechanism is being promoted to attract more resources. The proportion of renewable energy in the power source structure is increasingly rising.
Notably, the corporation also focuses on reducing emissions from existing thermal power plants. Emission treatment technology is being upgraded, and fly ash is recycled as construction material. The electricity saving program is widely disseminated through community campaigns and digital platforms.
Currently, EVN is researching the development of new energy sources such as green hydrogen. These efforts contribute to realizing Vietnam's green economic development goals.

Key projects and future directions
A prime example of EVN's green transition efforts is the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project in Ninh Thuan province (formerly Khanh Hoa). The project, with a capacity of 1,200 MW, has received significant credit from international partners under the JETP mechanism. This is a crucial flexible power source that helps balance the grid when integrating multiple renewable energies. EVN has commenced and accelerated this project along with the expansion of hydropower projects like Tri An and Hoa Binh. These pumped storage hydropower projects effectively support the stability of the national power system.

EVN is heavily investing in the 500kV transmission grid to release renewable capacity from the South to the North. New transmission lines and substations are being constructed in a synchronized manner. The corporation is applying comprehensive digital transformation in operational management. Collaboration with FPT brings AI and IoT solutions for smart energy management. EVN is committed to increasing the percentage of households using clean electricity, especially in rural and island areas. The new rural electrification program has achieved an almost absolute rate.
The corporation strictly implements greenhouse gas inventory and MRV reporting according to international standards. Environmental risk management has been elevated from procedural compliance to comprehensive governance. Based on practical synthesis, EVN has identified six core principles in environmental management: proactive legal compliance; accurate reflection of records; stable operation of treatment facilities; ensuring truthful monitoring data; enhancing staff capacity; and emphasizing the responsibility of leadership.
Alongside actively participating in regional green transition forums, EVN also focuses on systematically training personnel in clean technology and circular economy. EVN aims to become a leading green electricity corporation in the region by 2030–2050.
With specific actions and strong determination, EVN continuously contributes to steering Vietnam towards a low-carbon economy. Green transition is both a responsibility and an opportunity for sustainable development in the power sector. It is hoped that these efforts will continue to be strengthened, contributing to the sustainable development future of the country.
