On July 6, in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a conference to review its business operations for the first half of 2026 and to outline key tasks for the second half of the year. EVN's Chairman of the Members' Council, Dang Hoang An, and EVN's General Director, Nguyen Anh Tuan, co-chaired the conference. Attendees included members of the Members' Council, Deputy General Directors, leaders of EVN's specialized departments, and representatives from general companies, companies, power plants, and project management boards within the Group.
Ensuring electricity supply amid increasing load pressure
In the first half of the year, electricity load demand continued to rise sharply, especially during the peak dry season. The total commercial electricity output of the Group exceeded 152.5 billion kWh, marking a 10.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The Northern region recorded the highest growth in commercial electricity output at 13.1%.
The total electricity production and import of the entire system reached 171.54 billion kWh, up 9.85% year-on-year. Notably, on June 25, 2026, the national power system set a new record with daily electricity output reaching 1,215.4 million kWh and peak capacity (Pmax) hitting 57,537 MW. The Northern region also achieved its highest-ever peak capacity and output.
To operate efficiently, EVN closely coordinated with NSMO in regulating power sources, optimizing the repair schedule of thermal power plants, flexibly operating hydropower reservoirs, and maintaining high availability of power units.
Thermal power plants operated stably throughout the peak dry season, while hydropower reservoirs were exploited rationally, conserving water and proactively storing water for the dry season of 2026–2027. EVN also collaborated effectively with Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation to ensure coal supply for power production.
Operational indicators continued to improve significantly. The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) was better than the same period, and the power loss rate in transmission and distribution was lower than the planned level.

Notable achievements across various fields
In business and customer service, EVN has accelerated digital transformation, with the EVN customer care application being piloted since mid-June 2026. All 12 level-4 electricity services continue to operate smoothly on the online platform.
Power corporations have effectively implemented the Demand Side Management (DSM) program during heatwaves. Many large industrial customers participated in the Demand Response (DR) program, providing additional support for electricity supply during peak hours.
Regarding construction investment, the total executed value of the Group is estimated at 55,050 billion VND, with disbursement reaching 47,561 billion VND. Many key projects are progressing well, notably Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, which has achieved over 99% overall progress, with Unit 1 connected to the grid and Unit 2 preparing for furnace ignition in July, aiming for commercial operation in 2026. The Tri An Hydropower Expansion and Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower projects are also being closely monitored for progress.
For the power grid, EVN has commenced 89 projects and energized 95 projects from 110kV to 500kV voltage levels. The Group continues to coordinate efforts to resolve land clearance issues to expedite key transmission projects, enhancing electricity supply capacity in the future.
Preparing scenarios for 2027
At the conference, NSMO Deputy General Director Pham Quynh emphasised the coordination between EVN and NSMO, contributing to the safe and stable operation of the national power system, especially during extreme heatwaves. According to forecasts, El Nino could have a strong impact from September 2026 to April 2027 while load demand remains high. NSMO suggested that EVN continue to ensure fuel for power generation, maintain unit availability, and prepare well for DSM and hydropower reservoir operation for the dry season of 2027.
EVN's Chairman of the Members' Council Dang Hoang An commended the efforts of the Group's units and thanked NSMO for their close cooperation. He called for a high level of focus for the second half of the year to ensure safe electricity supply amid complex weather patterns, storms, and natural disasters. Preparations for ensuring electricity supply for 2027 need to begin now to avoid being caught off guard by high load demand or adverse conditions.
Regarding construction investment, the Chairman of the Members' Council demanded the completion of the 2026 plan targets, decisively resolving obstacles to accelerate the progress of key projects, and enhancing system capacity. He also emphasized the need for innovative management towards more scientific and efficient methods, promoting decentralization along with enhanced supervision.
In response to the directives of the Chairman of the Members' Council, EVN's General Director, Nguyen Anh Tuan, instructed the entire Group to strive to meet the production and business targets and construction investment for 2026. He directed urgent discussions with coal suppliers to develop an appropriate fuel plan for the remaining months of the year and the dry season of 2027.
Power corporations need to improve load forecasting quality, comprehensively evaluate DSM, and propose more effective electricity-saving solutions. Regarding Decree 243/2026/ND-CP, EVN requires a review of difficulties to propose solutions, accelerating the implementation of direct power purchase agreements (DPPA) and rooftop solar power.
