This year's Vietnamese Tet gathered a large number of overseas Vietnamese, connecting those far from home to their roots, rekindling memories of Vietnamese Tet, sharing camaraderie, and spreading traditional cultural values to generations of Vietnamese in New Zealand.
Joining the Vietnamese Tet 2026 festivities were many local friends, including Sir Anand Satyanand, former Governor-General of New Zealand, and his spouse, along with representatives from the New Zealand-Vietnam Friendship Association.

The Vietnamese Tet 2026 program was meticulously prepared, attracting overseas Vietnamese, both adults and children, and guests to enjoy and participate in activities rich in traditional cultural identity such as wrapping Tet cakes, requesting calligraphy for the New Year, creating paintings of the homeland, playing chess during the New Year, and engaging in tug-of-war, creating a festive atmosphere of reunion and warmth, rich in the spirit of the homeland far from the motherland.

Notably, the cultural exchange and musical performances were indispensable parts of the Tet program, featuring joyful and vibrant Spring songs, along with melodious tunes expressing deep love for the homeland, as well as traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai performances, leading the audience through a range of emotions of nostalgia, love, and pride, accompanied by continuous applause.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Wellington, New Zealand (VietCom), emphasized that after a year of hard work, Tet is an occasion to gather, socialize, meet, share joy, and look forward to a peaceful and happy Year of the Horse 2026.
Expressing gratitude for the support and assistance of the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand, Chairman Nguyen Van Thai affirmed that VietCom will continue to coordinate with Vietnamese associations and organizations to regularly organize more meaningful activities, contributing to preserving and promoting national cultural identity, thereby connecting the overseas Vietnamese community in Wellington and throughout New Zealand to support each other in developing strongly, while looking towards the homeland.

Moved by the deep affection of the overseas Vietnamese for their homeland, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Phan Minh Giang stated that the Vietnamese Tet 2026 took place at a very special time, celebrating the very successful 14th National Congress of the Party, a significant event and historical milestone, opening a new development phase, reflecting the strong aspirations of the Vietnamese nation.

The Ambassador affirmed that the Vietnamese community in New Zealand is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, and expressed the hope that the overseas Vietnamese will continue to unite, bond, support, and assist each other, developing strongly, contributing to preserving and promoting national cultural identity, and continuing to be an important factor in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand.

The Vietnamese Tet 2026 event, organized by the Vietnamese Association in Wellington, New Zealand (VietCom) and the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand, marked the beginning of a series of community and people-to-people exchange activities for the Vietnamese community across New Zealand during the traditional Tet 2026, affirming the important role of overseas Vietnamese as a bridge in fostering and enhancing cooperative relations, friendship, and mutual understanding between the two countries and the people of Vietnam and New Zealand.
