Entering 2026 – the first year of implementing the 2026–2030 five-year socio-economic development plan, following the resolutions of the first Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term and the 14th National Party Congress, the gathering for overseas Vietnamese celebrating Lunar New Year 2026 holds profound political and social significance, reflecting the city's leadership's care and affection for the overseas Vietnamese community.
The program, organized by the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, is scheduled from 3 PM to 8 PM on February 6, with the participation of approximately 1,000 overseas Vietnamese delegates returning to the city to celebrate the traditional Tet holiday.
The program focuses on two main areas. First, city leaders will meet, exchange, and inform the overseas Vietnamese community about the Party's guidelines and State laws related to overseas Vietnamese; the outstanding achievements of Ho Chi Minh City in the past year; the city's socio-economic development directions for 2026 and the following years, particularly the results of the first Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.
Second, the program aims to harness the resources of overseas Vietnamese by gathering opinions, experiences, and initiatives to develop a "Policy Recommendation Report", transforming the intellectual contributions of overseas Vietnamese into practical solutions for the city's development.
Besides the main content, delegates will immerse themselves in the traditional Tet atmosphere with rich cultural activities; visit booths displaying products from overseas Vietnamese and city enterprises; and enjoy a banquet featuring traditional Tet dishes.
In addition to the gathering for 1,000 delegates, on February 5 and 6, Ho Chi Minh City will host several specialized activities for 50 distinguished overseas Vietnamese delegates.
These activities focus on local connections – leveraging overseas Vietnamese resources; promoting the city's potential for cooperation, investment, economic development, and tourism; and surveying new-generation industrial zones and innovation ecosystems.
Notably, delegates will attend a symposium titled "Distinguished Overseas Vietnamese Accompanying the City in Green Transformation in the Digital Era", discussing and proposing solutions to integrate overseas Vietnamese resources into the green and digital transformation process, contributing to the rapid and sustainable development of Ho Chi Minh City.
Within the program's framework, Ho Chi Minh City will also organize various side activities such as an exhibition showcasing the significant contributions of overseas Vietnamese at the "Celebrating Lunar New Year – Celebrating the Glorious Party" exhibition (from February 2-22); welcoming and assisting overseas Vietnamese at Tan Son Nhat Airport; and visiting and extending Tet greetings to some distinguished overseas Vietnamese and their families in the area.
Through the program, Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm the important role and position of the overseas Vietnamese community, while spreading the message of solidarity, collaboration, and joint efforts to build a dynamic, modern, and compassionate city in the new era.
