Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse will visit Germany and attend the 2017 G20 Hamburg summit there from July 5-7.
During German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s official visit to Vietnam in October 2011, the two nations issued the Ha Noi Joint Statement on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership.
In 2016, the two-way trade turnover reached US$8.78 billion. Vietnam’s exports and imports attained US$5.95 billion and US$2.82 billion, respectively. In the first five months of 2017, the two –way trade value was estimated at US$3.8 billion.
Germany lists Vietnam among the fastest development markets in Asia, after China and India. As of April 20, 2017, Germany invested in 285 valid projects in Vietnam with a total investment capital of US$1.41 billion, ranking fifth in the EU and 20th among 116 nations and territories investing in Vietnam. Around 300 German businesses are operating in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s enterprises have poured US$124.8 million in 30 projects in Germany, focusing on finance-banking, retails of automobile and motorbikes, food services and accommodation, real estate and trade.
Since 1990, Germany has provided US$2 billion for Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects in Vietnam through technological and financial cooperation.
The German Government has committed to financing €600 million in the 2015-2017 phase to launch projects in prioritized areas of energy, vocational training in line with sustainable economic development, environmental policies and sustainable use of the natural resources.
Following the success of the “Make it in Germany” program on international labor cooperation, in the phase from 2013-2015, Germany has decided to receive 100 Vietnamese nurses per year in 2016-2017.
Currently, as many as 300 Vietnamese pursuing PhD degree received German scholarships and around 4,600 students are studying at German universities.
In the first quarter of 2017, the number of German visitors to Vietnam attained 61,923 ones, a year-on-year increase of 13.2%. Since July 1, 2015, Vietnam has piloted visa-exemption for German tourists to Vietnam within 15 days.
The two nations have exchanged scientists and researchers' delegations and organized meetings and conferences on this field.
During a visit to Vietnam of the President of German Federal State of Hessen in October 2012, the two sides inked the Memorandum of Understanding on prioritized cooperation, creating further intensive cooperation between Vietnam and the German state of Hessen.
The Vietnamese PM’s visit to Germany is expected to strengthen the two nations’ Strategic Partnership more effectively in the future.
