More than honour and pride

For every expatriate, the image of high-ranking Party and State leaders visiting and working in China is always a significant source of spiritual encouragement. It is not only a major political event but also a moment of kinship and thoughtful care for overseas Vietnamese and students in the host country.

For Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa, a PhD candidate at Beijing Language and Culture University, the state visit of General Secretary, President To Lam to China from April 14-17 marked the third time she had the honour of welcoming a high-level delegation.

“What impressed me the most was the closeness and sincere affection that the leaders always show towards the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese students in China. Those moments made me more aware of the Party and State’s concern for the younger generation and overseas Vietnamese, and helped me realize my responsibility to study and contribute to the homeland,” Hoa shared.

Responsibility of the young generation

This visit by General Secretary, State President To Lam to China is considered not only symbolic but also expected to open new substantive chapters in bilateral cooperation, including in the field of education and training.

For Vietnamese students in Beijing, who are diligently acquiring knowledge from China, the key areas of cooperation expected include strengthening educational collaboration, training talent, and enhancing academic exchanges between research institutes, universities, and enterprises of both countries.

Additionally, the young generation of Vietnam hopes for increased exchanges between prestigious universities of each country, sharing research achievements and innovations among young researchers.

Amidst the development flow of Vietnam-China relations and facing new opportunities for the country, Vietnamese students in China are increasingly aware of their roles and responsibilities.

In the article “Youth and the Future of the Nation”, General Secretary To Lam advised the young generation of Vietnam: “Patriotism in the new era is not only expressed through emotions but must be demonstrated through knowledge, action capacity, the spirit of conquering new heights of science and technology, and the will to master the future of the country.”

Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa believes that the responsibility of the young generation, including herself, is first and foremost to study and research seriously, actively observing the development experiences of the host country to contribute practical ideas to the homeland. At the same time, it is necessary to adhere to the motto: “Resilient - Pioneering Innovation - Aspiration to Contribute - Mastering the Future” as advised by General Secretary To Lam, using it as a guiding principle in each specific task.

For Thu Trang, it is the spirit of commitment and innovation while preserving national cultural identity. Meanwhile, Viet Trung emphasizes enhancing understanding of the volatile global situation and gaining in-depth knowledge in the academic field to contribute to bilateral relations in diverse ways.

Aspiration to serve

The common goal of these young individuals after completing their studies in China is to return to their homeland, using the knowledge gained to contribute to national development and foster Vietnam-China friendship.

After graduation, Kim Hoa plans to return to the Chinese Department at Hanoi University to continue her teaching career, hoping to train generations of students who are not only professionally competent but also have a firm political stance, becoming a solid bridge for the friendship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Thu Trang wishes to apply her experiences in China to the field of foreign affairs and international cooperation to deepen bilateral friendship.

As for Viet Trung, being an International Relations student at Peking University, he plans to further his research and participate in teaching to share knowledge and enhance multidimensional understanding among the youth of both countries.

Although each young Vietnamese abroad has their own plans and aspirations, they all share a common trait: they are resilient, knowledgeable, and always oriented towards the homeland. They are crucial nuclei, inheritors, and promoters of the friendship tradition, elevating Vietnam-China relations to new heights in the new era.
