Vietnamese in Kansai: Spreading the spirit of national unity, honoring heroes and martyrs, and supporting flood-affected compatriots
WVR - In anticipation of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2026), the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Association in Kansai, organized the 18th anniversary celebration of the Association (2008–2026) combined with a seminar on the theme "Strengthening the National Unity Bloc within the Vietnamese Community in Kansai, Japan".

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the working delegation; Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Consul General of Vietnam in Osaka, along with officials from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka; representatives of Vietnamese associations in Japan, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates in the Kansai region.
The program commenced with a solemn incense offering ceremony in memory of President Ho Chi Minh and the heroes and martyrs. The delegates observed a moment of silence, expressing profound gratitude to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.

The program also highlighted the significance of the 500-day-and-night campaign to search for and repatriate the remains of martyrs. Many remains have been found and returned to their homeland and families, contributing to the spread of the Vietnamese tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Gratitude and repayment".
Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General Nguyen Truong Son acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese Association in Kansai over the past 18 years; affirming that the Association is a pillar for the Vietnamese community in Kansai and an important bridge enhancing the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, also praised the role of the Association in uniting and gathering the overseas Vietnamese community, taking care of the lives of expatriates, and actively looking towards the homeland, contributing to strengthening the national unity bloc.
On behalf of the Association's Executive Committee, Ms. Le Thuong, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in Kansai, recounted the 18-year journey of building and developing the Association.

From a community organization, the Association has become a common home for Vietnamese in Kansai, implementing many practical activities in culture, education, social welfare, community support, and Vietnam-Japan friendship exchanges.
She affirmed that the Association will continue to play its role in connecting the community, preserving the Vietnamese language and cultural identity, enhancing activities directed towards the homeland, and contributing to the development of friendly relations between the two countries.

Within the program's framework, delegates participated in a seminar on strengthening the national unity bloc within the Vietnamese community in Kansai, discussing various solutions to build a united, civilized, and integrated community; preserving the Vietnamese language and cultural identity, and enhancing the effectiveness of coordination among associations in supporting Vietnamese people in Japan.
On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Vietnamese Association in Kansai for its outstanding achievements in gathering and uniting the Vietnamese community in Japan and activities directed towards the homeland.

In response to the damage caused by floods in Lai Chau province and several localities, the delegates and the Vietnamese community in Kansai expressed their heartfelt condolences to the affected compatriots; they also responded to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, joining hands to support the people in disaster-stricken areas, contributing to spreading the spirit of national unity and the tradition of "mutual affection and support" of Vietnamese people both at home and abroad.

Concluding the program, the delegates affirmed their determination to continue building a more united and sustainably developed Vietnamese community in Kansai, always looking towards the homeland and contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Japan friendship.
