During the visit, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong paid a courtesy call and held a working session with the city's Mayor, Mr. Thomas Begas. The Ambassador provided information about Vietnam's economic development potential, the over 50-year traditional friendship between Vietnam and Greece, and the high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries in 2026.

The strong political relations serve as a favorable foundation for both countries to enhance cooperation across all sectors, bringing tangible benefits to their citizens and businesses. In the Ioannina region, which hosts major Greek food processing factories, there are currently about 300 Vietnamese workers living and working.

Therefore, Vietnam hopes the city government will pay attention, create favorable conditions, and support Vietnamese workers during their employment here. Additionally, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece introduced the Mayor to ASEAN and the activities of the ASEAN Committee in Athens (ACAT), with the aim of connecting and organizing some ACAT activities in Ioannina to enhance local understanding of ASEAN.

Mayor Thomas Begas expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Vietnamese Ambassador to Ioannina, showing particular interest in and readiness to support Vietnamese workers in the area. He also expressed a desire to promote diplomatic relations between the city and ASEAN countries as proposed by Vietnam, to open up cooperation in culture, tourism, and sports between Ioannina and ACAT member countries (Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand).
