This role is evident through programs to mobilize, gather, and care for the overseas Vietnamese community, especially with the increasingly broad participation of members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

At the 11th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the voices and expectations of overseas delegates continue to highlight the increasingly clear role of the overseas Vietnamese community in the great national unity bloc.

Extended arms

Previously, overseas Vietnamese were often mentioned in terms of their emotional ties to their homeland. Today, the overseas Vietnamese community has become an important resource in various fields such as economics, science, education, culture, and people-to-people diplomacy.

In this journey, the members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front who are overseas Vietnamese are seen as the "extended arms" of the national unity bloc abroad. They not only represent the voice of the Vietnamese community in host countries but also contribute to bringing Vietnam's image to the world through many practical activities.

Many overseas Vietnamese are currently entrepreneurs, scientists, and intellectuals holding positions in developed countries. They serve as bridges for investment, trade, science, and technology cooperation, while also helping international friends better understand Vietnam.

For Dr. Phan Bich Thien, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe, her connection with community work and participation in the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front stemmed from her involvement in youth and student movements in Moscow (Russia) and attending the Outstanding Overseas Youth and Student Festival in 1988 in Bulgaria.

After moving with her family to Hungary for long-term residence, she has been concerned about how to connect the Vietnamese community and assert their position in the host country. From this thought, she helped establish the Vietnamese Women's Association in Hungary and actively participated in community activities, people-to-people diplomacy, and connecting women, entrepreneurs, and intellectuals overseas with their homeland.

Through these practical activities, in 2009, she was introduced by the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary to join the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. According to her, at that time, many overseas Vietnamese did not fully understand the role and function of the Front. However, through four terms of participation, she increasingly felt the role of gathering and consolidating the great national unity bloc of the Front, especially in connecting more than six million overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation.

What impressed Dr. Phan Bich Thien the most is the spirit of always looking towards overseas Vietnamese with respect and openness. The Front regularly gathers opinions from overseas Vietnamese on important national issues and conveys many of their recommendations to relevant agencies. Many policies and legal regulations have also been adjusted to ensure the rights of overseas Vietnamese.

Attending the 11th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Dr. Tran Hai Linh, an overseas Vietnamese in the Republic of Korea, also clearly felt the openness, receptiveness, and increasing attention of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front towards the overseas Vietnamese community. According to him, the strength of national unity in the new era lies not only in spiritual consensus but also in the ability to connect and synergize Vietnamese resources, creating a common strength for the goal of building a strong, prosperous nation.

A pillar for community connection

One of the aspects frequently mentioned by overseas Vietnamese when discussing the Vietnam Fatherland Front is its role in connecting and building trust. The Front not only gathers various classes of people within the country but also increasingly expands its connection space with the overseas Vietnamese community through dialogue, meetings, opinion gathering, and support for the overseas community in preserving national cultural identity.

Many members who are overseas Vietnamese believe that participating in the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front is not only a personal honor but also an opportunity for them to directly convey the sentiments and aspirations of the overseas Vietnamese community to the Party, State, and people within the country.

The role of overseas Vietnamese in the Front is no longer symbolic. Their voices are increasingly heard in matters related to overseas Vietnamese policies, Vietnamese language education, attracting intellectuals, and building the great national unity bloc.

Delegate Huynh Tan Dat, Chairman of the Vietnamese Students' Association in Australia, noted that what left a strong impression at the Congress was the spirit of innovation, a strong focus on the grassroots, placing people at the center, and emphasizing substance in all activities of the Front. He particularly resonated with the message of caring for the practical interests of the people, including the overseas Vietnamese community.

From the perspective of someone involved in the Student Association in Australia, Huynh Tan Dat hopes that in the future, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will continue to establish more effective connection mechanisms with overseas Vietnamese associations, especially the young intellectuals, international students, and young professionals. He believes that with close coordination and specific direction, the global Vietnamese youth and student community can contribute more to the country in fields such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and promoting Vietnam to the world.

Expectations for a new term

Attending the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, many overseas delegates expressed their hope that the Congress will continue to expand the role of the overseas Vietnamese community in the great national unity bloc.

Additionally, they hope that the Front in the new term will further promote online connection forms, regular exchange forums with overseas Vietnamese, and programs to attract young intellectuals to return and contribute to the country.

Many opinions also suggest that the role of overseas Vietnamese in cultural diplomacy and promoting Vietnam's image to the world should be further enhanced. In the context of deepening international integration, the overseas Vietnamese community has a special advantage in building international networks in economics, education, and culture.

Entrepreneur Nguyen Hoai Bac, an overseas Vietnamese in Canada, highly appreciated the directive speech by General Secretary, President To Lam at the Congress. According to him, although brief, the speech directly addressed practical issues, met current requirements, and demonstrated a decisive spirit in handling and resolving the country's issues.

He expressed his hope that the Vietnam Fatherland Front, along with other committees, ministries, and sectors, will continue to promote the spirit of "saying less, doing more," placing people at the center to serve. According to him, the strength of the Party originates from its close ties with the people; the State is strong because it relies on the people, and the regime is sustainable because it receives the trust, support, and cooperation of the people.

Representative of the overseas Vietnamese community in Japan, Nguyen Duy Anh, also stated that what the overseas Vietnamese community desires most now is genuine connection, listening, and long-term companionship from within the country. In the context of an increasingly diverse overseas Vietnamese community in terms of generations, professions, and places of residence, the Front needs to continue innovating its connection methods towards more flexibility and effectiveness, especially by enhancing the use of digital platforms to maintain regular interaction with overseas Vietnamese.

It is evident that the Vietnam Fatherland Front always plays an important role in gathering forces and maintaining the spiritual connection between the Vietnamese community both domestically and abroad. Not only is it a significant political-social milestone, but the 11th Congress also affirms that no matter where they are, the overseas Vietnamese community remains an integral part of the nation, sharing the aspiration to build a developed, powerful, and culturally rich Vietnam.
