Hue City to host 2026 Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation Forum
WVR - From September 5-6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Hue City, the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, and the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, will organise the Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation Forum 2026 in Hue City.

Under the theme “Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation: Building a Digital, Green and Sustainable Future - From Strategic Commitments to Concrete Actions”, the forum aims to strengthen connectivity among local authorities, businesses and organisations of the two countries, thereby promoting cooperation programmes aligned with the strengths and development needs of each locality.

The event takes place against the backdrop of increasingly substantive cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese localities, with a focus on expanding collaboration in high-value-added sectors such as high technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, green energy, logistics and innovation.
In the first five months of 2026, two-way trade between Vietnam and Japan reached US$23.35 billion, up 15.4% year on year.
At the same time, Vietnamese localities have stepped up engagement with Japanese partners to attract investment, facilitate technology transfer and develop human resources, thereby expanding bilateral cooperation into new areas and creating new avenues for collaboration.
This year's forum follows the first Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation Forum, held in Quang Ninh in November 2025, which brought together more than 800 delegates from the two countries.
The event is expected to maintain and strengthen a channel for connectivity between Vietnamese and Japanese localities, thereby contributing to the practical implementation of bilateral cooperation commitments.
