Deputy FM Le Thi Thu Hang: Vietnamese language as a bridge to preserve identity and connect the Overseas Vietnamese community
WVR - On the morning of August 12, at the headquarters of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Opening Ceremony of the "Vietnamese Language Teaching Training Course for Overseas Vietnamese Teachers" for the year 2026 took place. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang attended and delivered the opening speech.

This year's training course is attended by 50 overseas Vietnamese teachers from 14 countries and territories. The presence of these teachers is a vivid testament to their deep-rooted connection to their origins and the persistent efforts of the overseas Vietnamese community in preserving and teaching the Vietnamese language to future generations.

In her speech at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang stated that this year's training course is organized at a particularly meaningful time, right after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on August 2, 2026, regarding overseas Vietnamese affairs in the new situation, and the 33rd Diplomatic Conference was successfully held.
These major orientations continue to affirm the deep concern of the Party and State for the overseas Vietnamese community, while also setting the requirement to further enhance the effectiveness of preserving the Vietnamese language, national cultural identity, and leveraging the resources of overseas Vietnamese to serve the country's development.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang noted that in recent years, the Party and State have consistently paid special attention to overseas Vietnamese affairs, including the preservation and promotion of the Vietnamese language and national cultural identity within the community.
This reaffirms the consistent policy of the Party and State to always consider the preservation and promotion of the Vietnamese language and national cultural identity within the overseas Vietnamese community as an important task, contributing to strengthening the bond with the homeland, enhancing the strength of national unity, and building a stronger overseas Vietnamese community.

According to Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, in the context of rapid global changes, the overseas Vietnamese community is increasingly developing, widely distributed, and diverse in terms of generations, living conditions, and language environments. Therefore, the teaching and learning of Vietnamese face both new opportunities and new demands.
The strong development of digital technology, online platforms, and artificial intelligence is opening up new methods to bring Vietnamese closer to learners, making learning more flexible, dynamic, and suitable for the needs of different groups.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the 2026 training course is an opportunity for teachers to update their knowledge, exchange methods, share practical experiences, and seek more effective ways of teaching Vietnamese to the next generations of overseas Vietnamese.
Within the framework of the training course, the Deputy Minister hopes that the teachers will not only absorb new knowledge and methods but also actively discuss practical issues from their own classrooms; share difficulties, initiatives, and effective models.
The training course continues to contribute to the formation and strengthening of a network of Vietnamese language teachers abroad, increasingly connected, supporting each other, and developing together.
Representing the teachers attending the ceremony, Nguyen Thi Lien, Deputy Secretary-General of the Global Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Culture, and Deputy Head of the Vietnamese Language Heritage Club, expressed her honor to represent the learners and teachers who have returned from 14 countries and territories to share their thoughts and feelings at this Opening Ceremony.

Nguyen Thi Lien shared that after 10 years of teaching Vietnamese to young children in the Vietnamese community in Malaysia, this is her first time attending the training course. The 50 participants present at today's Opening Ceremony are all teachers who have made significant contributions to the persistent journey of spreading the Vietnamese language globally.
According to Lien, whether at the starting point or on the path of teaching Vietnamese and spreading Vietnamese culture, the teachers share a common expectation: the training course will provide the most practical knowledge and skills, enabling them to effectively apply them in classes for young Vietnamese children abroad.
Through these classes, the young overseas Vietnamese generation will truly love the Vietnamese language, use it well, and maintain a strong connection with their homeland and origins, becoming more aware of preserving Vietnamese identity in a world of diverse cultures.

From August 13 to 28, the 2026 training course takes place in Hanoi and some nearby localities, focusing on enhancing Vietnamese language teaching methods based on materials compiled and provided by experts from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Vietnam Education Publishing House. The program combines learning, professional exchanges with extracurricular activities, classroom observations at primary schools, and visits to several historical and cultural sites.
This is also an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese teachers to share practical experiences, discuss difficulties, initiatives, and effective models in teaching Vietnamese in various locations, thereby contributing to the formation and strengthening of a network of Vietnamese language teachers abroad, increasingly connected, supporting each other, and developing together.
