Vietcombank Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tung runs for the 16th National Assembly delegate.

As a candidate, Nguyen Thanh Tung expressed pride in receiving the trust of the bank's leadership, support from colleagues, and the electorate. If elected, he promises to listen to the voters, honestly convey the people's aspirations to the National Assembly, and strive to ensure the Assembly's policies are practical, contributing to the country's stable and prosperous development.

On February 5, at the Cultural House of Residential Group No. 1, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Dong Commune, Hanoi, held a meeting to gather voters' opinions and trust in candidates for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term. At the meeting, Nguyen Thanh Tung received unanimous support from all attending voters, confirming his eligibility to run.

Previously, a meeting to gather opinions from colleagues for the prospective National Assembly candidates (on January 16) also resulted in 100% agreement to nominate Nguyen Thanh Tung, a member of the Party Central Committee, Party Secretary, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietcombank, to run for the 16th National Assembly, term 2026 - 2031.

Being nominated is not only a recognition of Nguyen Thanh Tung's dedication and contributions but also reflects the trust and expectations of voters towards state-owned enterprise leaders who play a pivotal role in the economy. As the head of a major state-owned commercial bank, he consistently aligns business activities with social responsibilities, supporting community and national development.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung was born in 1974 in Hanoi. He graduated from the Foreign Trade University with a degree in international trade economics and from the University of Foreign Languages with a degree in English, and holds a master's degree in economics from Paris Dauphine University/ESCP.

He began his career at Vietcombank in 1997 as an officer in the international credit department at the bank's headquarters.

After nearly four years, he served as secretary to the Executive Board and the Board of Directors at the headquarters. By the end of 2004, he became Deputy Chief of Office and Secretary to the Board of Directors at the headquarters.

In early 2008, he was appointed Chief of Office at Vietcombank, and by mid-2013, he became Deputy Director of the Transaction Office Branch. Subsequently, he held positions as Acting Director, Director of the West Lake Branch, Director of the Corporate Customer Department at the headquarters, and Director of the Wholesale Division and Corporate Customer Department at the headquarters.

In April 2019, he was appointed Deputy General Director in charge of the wholesale division, and from August 2021, Deputy General Director in charge of the executive board.

Nguyen Thanh Tung was appointed as General Director by the Board of Directors of Vietcombank on January 30, 2023.

On July 26, 2024, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietcombank for the 2023-2028 term.
