AMM 59: Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung meets Norwegian counterpart, strengthening green economy cooperation and energy transition
WVR - On July 23, Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on the occasion of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related conferences.

Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung highly appreciated the role and positive contributions of Norway, including Minister Espen Barth Eide, in the successful conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Vietnam and EFTA countries in July 2026. He affirmed Vietnam's readiness to expedite legal reviews and complete necessary procedures, aiming to sign the Agreement within 2026.
This marks an important milestone, creating new momentum for Vietnam-Norway relations as the two countries celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, Minister Le Hoai Trung extended a cordial invitation to Minister Espen Barth Eide to visit Vietnam, which Minister Espen Barth Eide gladly accepted.
Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed gratitude for the valuable support and assistance that the Government and people of Norway have extended to Vietnam during its difficult times in the past, as well as in the nation's building and development efforts.
The Minister shared information about Vietnam's significant achievements after 40 years of Doi Moi, and outlined the development direction towards 2030 and the vision for 2045. He affirmed Vietnam's desire to strengthen cooperation with Norway in areas where Norway has strengths and Vietnam has needs, especially in renewable energy, green transition, sustainable marine economy, green technology, smart grids, and human resource training.
For his part, Minister Espen Barth Eide praised Vietnam's development achievements, affirming that Norway considers Vietnam an important and reliable partner in the region. He expressed readiness to share experiences and promote practical cooperation in line with Vietnam's development goals.
Both sides agreed to continue enhancing coordination in regional and international mechanisms. Minister Le Hoai Trung appreciated Norway's positive contributions to ASEAN and the region, supporting Norway in strengthening relations with ASEAN and continuing to make practical contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
Minister Espen Barth Eide affirmed that Norway values cooperation with ASEAN and wishes to closely coordinate with Vietnam to make ASEAN-Norway relations increasingly substantive and effective.
