Overview of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project at Quang Trach Power Center.

The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project is one of the national key projects, located at Quang Trach Power Center (Quang Tri Province). The project was approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 428/QD-TTg on the adjustment of the national power development plan for the period 2011-2020, with a vision to 2030 (Adjusted Plan VII).

According to Document No. 1828/TTg-KTN, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is assigned as the project investor; simultaneously, EVN assigns the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the representative investor, directly managing and operating the project implementation along with other components at Quang Trach Power Center.

Successful grid synchronization of Unit 1

At 12:00 on April 12, at Quang Trach Power Center, Unit 1 of Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant successfully synchronized with the grid for the first time. This is an important milestone, paving the way for Unit 1 of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant to generate electricity for the national grid by May, contributing to supplementing the power supply to meet the demand during the hot season.

The initial grid synchronization was conducted to serve the testing, adjustment, and acceptance of the systems and equipment of the unit before official operation. During this process, the unit was synchronized with the national grid, and the operational capability of the turbine, generator, and control system was checked according to technical procedures.

The successful initial grid synchronization indicates that the basic technical parameters of the unit meet the design requirements, operating stably and safely. This is an important basis for the units to continue implementing the next testing steps, aiming to complete the entire acceptance process before commercial operation.

This milestone marks a significant transition of the project from the construction phase to the trial operation phase. It affirms the organizational and implementation capacity of the investor, the Project Management Board, and the participating units in bringing a large-scale power source project to completion as planned.

In the coming time, EVN and EVNPMB2 stated they will continue to coordinate with relevant units to focus on completing the remaining components, accelerating the testing and adjustment process to bring Unit 1 into stable, safe, and efficient operation.

Contributing to national energy security in a sustainable manner

The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project is constructed on an area of approximately 48.6 hectares in Phu Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, with the goal of supplementing large-scale power sources, contributing to ensuring national energy security and meeting the electricity demand for socio-economic development.

When operational, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant (comprising 2 units with a total capacity of 1,403 MW) will enhance the electricity supply for the national grid, especially during peak load periods. The timely completion of the first grid synchronization of the unit holds significant importance in the context of rising electricity demand, particularly during the hot season.

The implementation of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant has contributed to shaping the spatial development structure of Quang Trach Power Center, from internal transportation systems, fuel import ports, transmission infrastructure to technical conditions serving the synchronized operation of multiple power plants. This is a crucial premise for attracting investment and promoting the implementation of subsequent component projects, especially in the context of transitioning to low-emission LNG power sources.

Moreover, Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant serves as a pioneering project in ensuring energy security for the North Central region and the entire country, contributing to supplementing a stable foundational power source, creating room for the transition of the power structure towards sustainability.

Aiming towards the goal of developing an energy center oriented towards green, clean, and sustainable development, when operational, the project will not only provide a large electricity output for the system but also play a role in balancing and supporting the integration of increasingly growing renewable energy sources.

It can be said that the progress and effectiveness of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant's implementation not only determine the success of a single project but also serve as a key, leading factor for the entire roadmap of forming Quang Trach Power Center.
