Enhancing the role of media agencies

On December 28, within the framework of the “Vietnam-China Friendship Journey” organized by Guangdong Radio and Television, a delegation of Vietnamese media agencies visited and worked with the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, China.

At the meeting, Consul General of Vietnam in Guangzhou Nguyen Viet Dung welcomed the delegation of Vietnamese media agencies and highly appreciated the significance of the “Vietnam-China Friendship Journey” held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Vietnam-China Year of Humanistic l Exchanges, and in the lively, enthusiastic atmosphere leading up to the 14th National Party Congress.

During the “red journey”, journalists and scholars from both countries had the opportunity to visit historical sites linked to the revolutionary activities of President Ho Chi Minh and other Vietnamese revolutionary veterans in the Guangxi-Guangdong region, two localities in China closely connected to Vietnam.

While Guangxi borders Vietnam, Guangdong was chosen by President Ho Chi Minh as a revolutionary base, the precursor of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In this special journey, journalists and scholars also heard moving stories about the heroic historical period of “standing shoulder to shoulder” in the revolutionary struggle of the pioneering leaders from both sides.

Through the visits, the Vietnamese media delegation also witnessed China's robust development and successful lessons in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Guangzhou. This was also an opportunity to enhance cooperative connections, share experiences in content production, and apply technology in external communication between the two countries.

The Consul General noted that the “Vietnam-China Friendship Journey” is a practical activity to implement one of the “six more” orientations to promote relations between the two countries, which is to build a “stronger social foundation”. The Consul General hopes this journey not only concludes a vibrant Vietnam-China Year of Cultural Exchanges but also opens a new phase with increasingly profound and strong cultural exchanges, as famously stated by President Ho Chi Minh: “The deep affection between Vietnam and China, both comrades and brothers.”

Expressing gratitude for the connection and “companionship” of the Consulate General in the “Vietnam-China Friendship Journey”, Vietnamese media agencies affirmed their efforts to enhance their role in connecting people, spreading understanding and trust. The delegation also shared and exchanged content, topics, and initiatives to vividly convey the depth and breadth of bilateral relations and tell authentic, humane stories, contributing to bringing the people of the two countries closer together.

“Touching” history to cherish the present and strive for future

On the same day, the delegation visited Huanghuagang Cemetery Park, paying respects at the grave of martyr Pham Hong Thai. Amidst the incense smoke and solemn, serene atmosphere, the delegation offered flowers and incense in memory of martyr Pham Hong Thai, observing a moment of silence to honor the revolutionary predecessors and express deep gratitude for their heroic sacrifice for the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Sharing his emotions upon visiting, journalist Nguyen Hoai Dam, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at Vietnam Television (VTV), stated that many Vietnamese know about martyr Pham Hong Thai and the story of the “Sa Dien Bomb” featured in textbooks, but not everyone has the opportunity to visit Guangzhou to “touch” history.

“Our delegation feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to offer flowers and incense at the resting place of martyr Pham Hong Thai. It is even more touching to see the site beautifully and spaciously restored, located in Huanghuagang Park, a place both beautiful and accessible for people and tourists to visit at any time. This once again shows that the spirit and valor of Vietnam, symbolized by the sacrifice of martyr Pham Hong Thai, are truly respected and valued by our friends,” journalist Nguyen Hoai Dam said.

Standing before the grave of the national hero, each member of the delegation felt moved and admired the heroic sacrifice of martyr Pham Hong Thai, thereby cherishing the current peace and promising themselves to strive with their small abilities to contribute to a peaceful, sustainable future for both nations.

Martyr Pham Hong Thai (1895-1924), originally from Hung Nhan commune, now Lam Thanh commune, Nghe An province, was a Vietnamese patriot who died in Guangzhou on June 19, 1924. He joined the Tam Tam Society founded by comrades Ho Tung Mau and Le Hong Phong in 1924, tasked with assassinating Indochina Governor-General Henry Merlin during his visit to the Sa Dien concession. When the attempt failed, Pham Hong Thai threw himself into the Pearl River. The “Sa Dien Bomb” incident shocked the press and public opinion in China at the time, contributing to the encouragement of the rising national liberation movement across Asia.

Honouring and admiring the spirit of self-sacrifice for the nation, the people of Guangzhou buried Martyr Pham Hong Thai on Erwanggang Hill, with the grave facing southwest towards the homeland. The grave is inscribed in Chinese characters: “The grave of Vietnamese martyr Pham Hong Thai”. In front of the grave is a large stele inscribed in Chinese, summarizing the heroic actions of martyr Pham Hong Thai.

The grave of martyr Pham Hong Thai is located in Huanghuagang Cemetery Park. Covering an area of about 130,000m², the park was built to commemorate the martyrs who heroically sacrificed during the Huanghuagang Uprising, led by Sun Yat-sen in Guangzhou on April 27, 1911. It has become a significant site for every Vietnamese visiting Guangzhou to pay their respects.
