Speaking at the meeting, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung congratulated the delegation on their successful visit to Vietnam, which concretized the cooperative relationship between the two localities on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Guangzhou establishing a sister city relationship with Ho Chi Minh City in 1996.
According to Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung, the decision of Guangzhou Metro Group to choose Ho Chi Minh City as the location for its representative office in Vietnam demonstrates the Group’s strong commitment to cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general. This is a result of collaboration between Vietnamese and Chinese localities, marking a shift from individual project cooperation to shaping a long-term strategic partnership in the urban railway sector.
The Consul General also highly appreciated Guangzhou Metro Group's leadership for their commitment to sharing over 30 years of experience in urban railway development, including technology, investment construction experience, and modern management systems with Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, they support Vietnam in perfecting technical standards, urban railway management systems, and promoting technology localization, management, and human resource training.
During the meeting, Guangzhou Deputy Mayor Lai Chi Hong expressed sincere gratitude for the support from the Vietnamese Consulate General over the years. He also noted that during the recent visit, Guangzhou Metro Group and Vietnam Railways Corporation signed a strategic cooperation agreement on electrified railway operations and human resource training, opening opportunities to promote urban and modern railway projects in Vietnam.
According to Lai Chi Hong, this activity aims to concretize the Vietnam-China cooperation direction in the transportation infrastructure sector, especially railways. The city of Guangzhou also proposed the early establishment of a joint venture to promote projects, contributing to the modernization of Vietnam's railway network according to the plan.
On this occasion, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung also proposed that Guangzhou promote cooperation in research and human resource training between the Vietnam Military Traditional Medicine Institute and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, one of China's oldest universities in the field of traditional medicine.
Initially, a short-term training course at undergraduate, postgraduate, and master's levels will be organized for students of the Vietnam Military Traditional Medicine Institute on non-drug treatment methods using traditional medicine and other strengths of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
