The transfer not only signifies a professional collaboration between the two entities but also represents a purposeful shift of fine arts heritage from the association's storage to the national museum, where the artworks will be preserved, researched, and widely introduced to both domestic and international audiences.
A total of 979 artworks were selected from the Vietnam Fine Arts Association's collection, reflecting the appearance, progress, and significant movements of modern Vietnamese fine arts.
The collection gathers creations from multiple generations of artists, from those trained at the Indochina College of Fine Arts, artists who matured during the resistance wars, to succeeding generations and contemporary artists.
The artworks are diverse in genre and material, including painting, graphics, sculpture, and ceramics; rich in themes and forms of expression, ranging from realism, romanticism, expressionism to abstraction and conceptual art.
Besides aesthetic value, many artworks also hold historical significance, reflecting the social life, spirit, and mindset of the Vietnamese people through the historical phases of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
Experts particularly focus on three notable groups of works. Among them, the propaganda paintings (posters) from the 1950s are associated with the labor and nation-building efforts and the resistance wars, showcasing the artistic level and spirit of the era of early modern Vietnamese fine arts.
The second group includes paintings and sculptures created in the past 20 years, vividly reflecting contemporary fine arts life.
The third group comprises foreign graphic artworks, contributing to the expansion of the international collection, demonstrating the results of cultural and artistic exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and international friends.
The collection transferred this time consists of unique, original works, donated with the aim of long-term, safe preservation and effective promotion of the national fine arts heritage.
The reception ceremony is not only a professional event but also a significant cultural milestone, affirming the role of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum as a “common home” for Vietnamese visual heritage.
