Khan Academy Vietnam and Diplomatic Academy to promote AI integration in teaching

On January 7, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), in collaboration with The Vietnam Foundation and Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV), organised a seminar titled “Introduction and Practice of AI Applications in Teaching, Classroom Management, and Self-Study”.

The event was attended by Dr Nguyen Thi Thin, Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy; Mr Pham Duc Trung Kien, Chairman of The Vietnam Foundation and founder of Khan Academy Vietnam; Mr Do Ngoc Minh, co-founder of KAV, along with representatives from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese. Notably, the seminar drew a large number of Academy lecturers, as artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly impacting education and training activities.

During the seminar, speakers, including Mr Pham Duc Trung Kien and Mr Do Ngoc Minh, discussed the role of educators in the AI era and a human-centred approach to digital transformation. According to the speakers, digital transformation in education is not merely about introducing new technology into classrooms but involves a comprehensive change in teaching, learning, and management methods, where teachers play a pivotal role, and AI serves as a supportive tool.

As part of the program, the Khan Academy platform and the AI Teaching Assistant Khanmigo, specialised in education, were introduced as solutions to assist teachers in teaching and organising learning activities. Additionally, participating lecturers had the opportunity to directly experience various popular AI tools, such as NotebookLM and Gemini, as well as platforms supporting the creation of electronic lectures, thereby gaining a more practical understanding of AI's potential and limitations in education.

The seminar not only focused on technological aspects but also dedicated significant time to discussing challenges in applying AI in teaching, including ethical issues, data security, and the reliability of AI-generated information. Opinions at the seminar agreed that AI is merely a supportive tool, while humans remain the ultimate decision-makers; it also emphasised the importance of equipping teachers with AI competencies according to international frameworks, including the AI Competency Framework for Teachers issued by UNESCO.

Speaking at the event, Dr Nguyen Thi Thin highly appreciated the practical significance of the seminar for lecturers amid the strong digital transformation in education. She expressed the Academy's desire to continue collaborating with Khan Academy Vietnam in utilising educational resources on the Khan Academy platform, referencing micro and macroeconomics modules for students. Additionally, she mentioned opening up internship opportunities and community education activities for DAV students at KAV.

The seminar at the Diplomatic Academy is part of Khan Academy Vietnam's series of collaborative programs with educational institutions nationwide. Through these activities, Khan Academy Vietnam aims to support schools and teachers in accessing and applying AI effectively, responsibly, and sustainably, thereby contributing to the enhancement of teaching and learning quality in the digital era.
