During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that 2026 holds special significance as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (1976 - 2026). Both sides are actively coordinating to develop and implement an Action Program to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2026-2030 period.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed an invitation from General Secretary To Lam to the King and Queen of Thailand to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Thailand is a leading trade partner of Vietnam in ASEAN and urged both sides to continue efforts to soon achieve a bilateral trade turnover of 25 billion USD in a more balanced and sustainable manner by facilitating and further opening markets for goods, and limiting trade barriers against each other's products.
The Prime Minister stressed the vast potential for cooperation between the two countries, with many strengths that can complement each other. Both sides should jointly explore expanding cooperation in new areas such as science, technology, digital transformation, digital economy, innovation, and connecting startup innovation networks. He encouraged promoting cooperation in green and sustainable economy, circular economy, clean energy, fair energy transition, cultural exchange, sports, tourism, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the bond and friendship between the two nations, and to meaningfully organize activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
Amid the current complex developments in the Middle East, the Prime Minister reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance of resolving disputes through peaceful means. He appreciated ASEAN's organization of a Special Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Middle East situation on March 13 and urged ASEAN countries to continue fostering solidarity to create strength, cooperate for mutual benefits, and engage in dialogue to build trust.
Regarding energy security, the Prime Minister shared concerns about ensuring the supply of aviation fuel, which is crucial for civil aviation, transportation, tourism, and trade in the region. In this spirit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Thailand to consider facilitating stable fuel supply for civil aviation activities in Vietnam, contributing to economic-social stability and development, and trade and tourism exchanges.
The Thai Ambassador expressed strong agreement with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals, affirming that both countries need to support each other during the current global challenges. The Ambassador emphasized that although Thailand is also facing difficulties in ensuring sufficient domestic energy supply, it will continue to contribute to joint efforts, especially within ASEAN, to ensure regional energy stability.
Sharing the honour of being appointed as the Thai Ambassador to Vietnam, her second home, the Ambassador expressed deep gratitude for the support and assistance from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other Vietnamese ministries and sectors. She committed to doing her utmost to deepen and enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Thailand in a substantive and effective manner.
