Goods export turnover continues to surge

Goods export turnover in January 2026 rose by 29.7%.

According to a report by the General Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, compared with the same period last year, goods export turnover in January 2026 rose by 29.7%. Of this, that of the domestic economic sector declined by 1.3%, accounting for 22.0% of total export turnover, while the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) increased by 42.2%, accounting for 78.0%.

In January 2026, nine commodity groups recorded export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 72.4% of total export turnover.

In terms of the structure of export commodity groups in January 2026, processed industrial products reached 38.43 billion USD, accounting for 89.0%; agricultural and forestry products reached 3.65 billion USD, accounting for 8.5%; aquatic products reached 1.01 billion USD, accounting for 2.3%; and fuels and minerals reached 0.10 billion USD, accounting for 0.2%.

The General Statistics Office also reported that goods import turnover in January 2026 reached 44.97 billion USD, up 0.6% compared with the previous month. Of this, the domestic economic sector reached 12.91 billion USD, down 11.4%, while the foreign-invested sector reached 32.06 billion USD, up 6.5%. Compared with the same period last year, goods import turnover in January 2026 increased by 49.2%, with the domestic economic sector up 18.2% and the foreign-invested sector up 66.8%.

In January 2026, eight commodity groups recorded import turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 64.9% of total import turnover. Notably, one commodity group recorded imports of over 10 billion USD, accounting for 37.0%.

As a result, the goods trade balance in January 2026 recorded a trade deficit of 1.78 billion USD, compared with a trade surplus of 3.17 billion USD in the same period last year.

The US continued to be Viet Nam’s largest export market, with turnover reaching 13.9 billion USD. China remained Viet Nam’s largest import market, with turnover reaching 19.0 billion USD.
