On the morning of July 15, Consul General (CG) Nghiem Viet Chung held a working session with Deputy Prefect of Honghe Prefecture Truong Moc Tinh. Mr Truong Moc Tinh highlighted several economic and social development achievements in Honghe Prefecture, particularly in recent cooperation with neighbouring Vietnamese localities. He emphasised the effective bridging role of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Kunming in facilitating connections, enhancing friendship, and fostering practical cooperation between Honghe Prefecture and the provinces of Lao Cai, Lai Chau, and other Vietnamese localities.

Ms Nghiem Viet Chung emphasised that recent high-level visits by leaders of the two parties and countries have laid an important foundation for substantive cooperation between localities of the two countries. This includes the construction of the Lao Cai - Yunnan Cross-Border Economic Cooperation Zone, strengthening border infrastructure connectivity, enhancing cadre training cooperation, and exchanging experiences in party-building work.

Ms Nghiem Viet Chung suggested that Honghe Prefecture continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese border localities, especially Lao Cai and Lai Chau, to organise more activities promoting the tourism potential of both sides during the Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027. He also urged the timely sharing of information on policies and measures related to trade, import, and export activities, including agricultural products, to ensure smooth and efficient customs clearance between the two sides.

Following the working session with Honghe Prefecture leaders, Ms Nghiem Viet Chung directly surveyed several facilities in the border area between the two countries to understand the current state of border infrastructure connectivity, the progress of implementing digital and smart border gates, and preparations for the construction of the cross-border economic cooperation zone.

The Consul General surveyed the construction progress of the Bat Xat (Vietnam) - Ba Sai (China) bridge, the current state of the Kim Thanh (Vietnam) - Bac Son (China) border economic zone, and visited the fruit and coffee processing facilities of the Nang Dau Yunnan Group.

Additionally, the Consulate General delegation exchanged and worked with the Management Board of the Kim Thanh Border Economic Zone and the Lao Cai Department of Foreign Affairs.

On the morning of July 17, CG Nghiem Viet Chung led the delegation of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Kunming to attend the Lao Cai Province Investment Promotion Conference 2026.

At this conference, through the connections facilitated by the Consulate General, more than 20 corporations and enterprises from Yunnan, Chongqing, and Sichuan attended and surveyed potential investment areas in Lao Cai Province.

In discussions, representatives of the Sunwah Group expressed their deep impression of the natural beauty and tourism potential of Lao Cai Province, affirming their intention to research and invest in several projects in Sa Pa and Ho Thac Ba.
