The traditional boat racing festival is a long-standing spiritual and communal cultural beauty of Laos, usually held at the end of the rainy season (after the End of Buddhist Lent - Ooc Phansa, around late October each year).

The festival not only signifies gratitude to the river gods, praying for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and peaceful lives, but also celebrates the spirit of unity and collective strength of the Lao ethnic communities through the powerful rowing strokes on the Mekong River and other local rivers.

On October 25, in Bolikhamxay province, the Vietnamese Consul General attended the opening ceremony and witnessed the exciting competitions of the boat racing teams from Bolikhamxay province and Bung Kan province (Thailand). The presence of the Vietnamese Representative Missions reflects the friendly and warm relations, sharing joy with the local authorities and people during this major provincial festival.
